My Modest Shave Den

Thanks for the detailed description Mickey Oberman. Somehow, I didn't notice those were all just individual brush holders. I thought they were an integral part of the cabinet. The razor holders are a great idea. I think I may have to copy that. I'm running out of room in the medicine cabinet!

Yes, they are individual pieces.
They are attached to a strip of that ever useful 1-1/2" (1-5/8") pine with double faced tape.
The entire unit can be lifted out as it too is not secured by screws or nails to the cabinet.

Those pine strips are very useful. I use them for everything as in the bathroom to drawer dividers to inexpensive frames, for my paintings, which a friend once described as 'Mission Style', to security locks for sliding windows, etc.

Great set up BadDad - I have one of those test-tube rack razor holders but I've retired it from razor duty and plan on replacing it with a wooden test-tube rack which I found on Amazon but haven't bought yet. The reason is mostly that I risked scratching some of my nice razors every time I put it in or took it out of the rack and the metal edges are just punched/stamped so they're a little edgy. I also didn't like the metal on metal contact or rattling metallic sound if I knocked it. Just me and my personal peculiarities but when in doubt, use wood. There are some reasonably priced wooden test-tube racks on amazon and some with larger capacity - that means I can get more razors! I really appreciate seeing other member's storage solutions as I get good ideas every time.

My updated shave den. It's been several months since I started this topic, and my den has grown pretty dramatically since then. So I thought I would share and updated photo...



The green and purple shelf with the heart was given to me by my kid when she was 5 years old or so...maybe 6...from one of those pick it and paint it stores...

Ikea told me the secret for easy removal of their sink stopper.

Rub it with a little vaseline.

It's magic!

The frustration and aggravation coupled with the loss of many precious entries, letters and photographs have made the internet a hell hole of misery for me.

Freddy, it's absolutely possible that a power outage can totally wipe out an entire computer and I've seen it happen before. sometimes it'll only wipe out the power supply, while other times it'll fry everything in its path.

I'd recommend putting your electronics behind a solid surge protector (I use tripp-lite myself) that you replace every few years as their surge protection simply wears out over time. if you have something you want to protect even further, hook it up to a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) that'll filter your line and allow you to safely shut down a system when the power goes out.

to further protect your data, everyone should REALLY be doing backups everyday. I HIGHLY recommend backblaze as they offer unlimited storage and they're only $5/month. you can also safeguard your data by keeping your important stuff in the cloud. dropbox and google drive are decent options if you care more about space than privacy. I personally use tresorit as it encrypts my data from end to end. to remember my passwords I use keepass and just keep my password database synced up in the cloud. for most, that's more trouble and more technical, but there are easier options out there like lastpass...
