What would Woodstock week be without Hendrix on All Along the Watchtower.

And I have to include Alvin Lee and Ten Years After performing I'm Going Home. In my very ignorant youthhood, I took my parents to see the movie version of Woodstock while I tripped on LSD. I remember how great this particular performance was, but I also remember my parents wondering what I was going on about...

I thought Freddie Mercury was brilliant and his duet with Montserrat Caballé, Barcelona, showcased just how far his talent stretched.

Taking a break from rock and blues, I'm listening to Caetano Veloso sing Cucurrucucú Paloma and Luz Casal doing Piensa En Mi.

Mozart Symphony No. 33, which contributed to pretty much a perfect shave this morning.

I'll always end up back at the blues - at least for a while.  Then I'll get back to Mozart... And then some classic folk music from the 60s... Maybe even something from a Broadway musical. I have eclectic tastes in music.  I treasure music that grabs me emotionally, that reaches my heart and soul.

In speaking about the late Aretha Franklin on her blog The Sheila Variations, Sheila O'Malley said, "What you see in her live performances is someone who digs down into the deep well inside of her, her own history, the history of others, the down-dirty history of America, the history of her own time, and pours it back up and out of her mouth. That’s why she’s so powerful. There are very few artists who can do that … and the ones who DO are the ones we treasure most. In them, we hear ourselves, but we also LEARN about ourselves."

So true. Whether it's blues or folk or classical, the singer or musician or composer that can do that touches something deep in me and makes me feel myself and learn about myself.

I hear you. I listen to a very wide range of music - rap, r&b, rock, metal, blues, some country, etc.. I love live music, personally. That's probably the main reason I enjoyed Nashville & Memphis so much..

I was listening to Bob Schneider the other day and realized there is an actual reference to shaving in one of his songs! It happens at about the 2:45 mark
