Couldn't agree more. I get mine from a local place and like the flavor so much more than the generic blend.

My favorite is locally roasted as well although they have begun to develop a name and have broader distribution.

Ruta Maya. I typically like darker roasts but their medium is better IMHO. Very well rounded and super smooth.

My local shop is Carabello Coffee.  They buy smaller lots from independent farmers and roast on site.  Selection is constantly churning as they buy what is in season.

This forum is crazy in how posts recently have mirrored this year's Christmas list in our house from watches, to pens, to Coffee!! I bought my wife a new coffee maker and a grinder for Christmas.... I drink coffee not daily, but perhaps a few times a week... she is a daily consumer of several cups.... I'm told, grinding the beans and making it that way is a night and day difference from than the Kuerig K cups we have been accustomed to over the years.... maybe now she won't need to hit starbucks as often? One can dream Smile I even got a hand grinder so as not to wake the kids in the morning or her. Seems that I am the only true morning person in our family...

Coffee!  I get mine very locally roasted.  In my own kitchen as a matter of fact.  I've been a home coffee roaster for over 20 years.  Its not that hard and your initial investment doesn't have to be big.  My first batch I roasted in a cast iron frying pan and it wasn't too bad.  I used a hot air popcorn popper for 5 or 6 years and eventually graduated up to a Hottop machine that is programable, has a cooling cycle and a chaff catcher.  I roast once a week for the weeks supply and I can say without much doubt that no matter how bad things might get, I drink a Damn Fine cup of coffee in the morning. Right after I have a Damn Fine Shave.  I also bring my wife her cup in bed every morning.  I am a pretty good husband in some waysSmile  I've been getting my beans and equipment from www.sweetmarias.com for 15 years now.  They have a brick and mortar in Oakland and they have some really excellent coffee beans.  Also lots of resources to help home roasters.  You can even save money doing this because a pound of top notch home roasted coffee will come in at around $6/lb.  IF you use a pound a week the savings will add up and assuming you don't go crazy and buy a pro roaster your equipment investment can be paid off in a year or so and then its savings city which you can direct to shaving materialsSmile

I agree that one of the best things you can do for your morning cup is buy fresh beans and grind them right before brewing with a burr mill grinder.  Another thing you can do is keep your coffee brewing equipment and carafes scrupulously clean otherwise that great coffee you put in will come out tasting like office coffee.  The Techni Vorm coffee machine is excellent for many reasons not the least of which is that it comes apart easily so that every surface that touches coffee can be washed in the dishwasher.  I have been using the pour over method of brewing for a few years now and its even better. I've pated in a youtube video of Thompson Owen of Sweet Maria's demonstrating the pour over method.  Its excellent.  Thompson is Maria's husband (sweet maria) and is a coffee savant.  I love good coffee - its more than a caffeine delivery system.  Kuerig is the cartridge razor of coffee - billions of those little plastic pods end up in the landfill every year and really, its not great coffee.

Amen Marko!

I do have intentions of roasting my own one day. I first need my kids to get a bit older and not take so much of my morning time away and I need more counter space in the kitchen.
