Being a new guy I spend a lot of time reading about wet shaving. I currently have two brushes both silvertip. I decided I wanted to try a mixed brush for some more backbone. I have read a lot of people like the Vulfix 404 but I haven't been able to find one. Any recommendations for other boar/badger brushes? Not looking to break the bank since this will be my first such brush.

Go with the Maggard mixed knot. I rarely use mine after getting into 2-band badgers, but if I really want to kill some soap or feel the need for some extra scrub, it fits the bill nicely.

Ditto.
I’ve compared the Semogue Mistura to the Maggard Mixed knot and the Maggard is much better.
Go buy yourself a handle (AP Shave has inexpensive ones) and epoxy the Maggard knot in…
It will be one of your favorite brushes!
