Awe man, that sucks. I was just there this past summer while visiting for a month - it was a little sanctuary on the Danforth. I guess it makes sense, some of the staff were complete tools, but that's too bad.

You won't find Barrister and Mann, Catie's Bubbles, Mickey Lee Soapworks, Penhalligons or any other brand cheaper than this.

I think they're planning to continue with the online store but they're going to revamp it. I have bought things from them online over the years but their website needed work - its not the best set up. That said, their service was always excellent, prices competitive and they were the first Canadian vendor to stock Chatillon Lux and that in itself wins my loyalty.

I thnk its tough to staff a brick and mortar with knowledgable people at (probably) minimum wage. We've got one in Calgary, Kent of Inglewood and they don't stock artisanal stuff nor is their staff all that knowledgeable apart from the manager. They have a great line of Swedish broad axes though! Big Grin Hard to shave with however.

Looks like the sale is only for Canadians. It only allows "Canada" as the choice for shipping.

Well if you can't shave with a Swedish broad ax, you just aren't trying hard enough lol!!

I agree, I guess it would be hard to staff a place like that. The causal shoppers are one thing, but the nuts like us who know more than most...

Either way, again, I'm sorry they are going. Even though I don't live in Toronto anymore, it always makes me a little sad when a brick and mortar shaving store hits the dust. Of course, how any place can stay open with rents and real estate being so expensive is beyond me. I got the most expensive haircut of my life on the Danforth this past summer (where this store is located). When I asked if I was being robbed because I wasn't a local, I got a lesson in the cost of living in Toronto.

Hey HoosierShave thats too bad it was limited to Canada because there were some great deals - I was just there and most of the good stuff is sold out although there is still some T+S soap and AS available. I got myself an extra Boreal because its such a great soap and it smells great.

I don't know what the deal was with Men Essentials. Their product selection was a little off I think. A few years ago they were stocking some good artisan shave products, even had Bufflehead in stock for a while...if only I'd known. They's show stuff as sold out and it would stay that way for years while the oddball stuff that obviously wasn't moving was just always in stock. Surprise. They always had some B&M in stock and I just checked they still have some in stock now. In any case I think the problem with them was failing to stock the inventory that the hardcore wet shavers really wanted and focussing more on inventory that wives or girlfriends might think is a good gift for their man. Lots of EJ, Muhle, Merkur and Parker razors in stock - some Rockwell. I also grabbed a 2C in white chrome because. A backup or a gift probably.

And then when they stopped carrying Chatillon Lux, they sold off the alcohol/fragrance-only testers I sent them for free as aftershave at "half price." Had to answer a few emails as to why this "aftershave" wasn't like my regular aftershave.

So to anyone, buy any deeply discounted testers with caution.

What?? Like product that was just alcohol and fragrance? Intended to sit on the shelf next to your product so people in the brick and mortar could smell it before buying real aftershave? Amazing Confused
