It’s a very concentrated  coconut oil soap. You’ll get 9 months to.a year out of a jar, so is it worth it in dollars and cents, yes. It’s more economical than many artisan soaps on a cost-per-shave basis. You can save on postage by buying two jars, and it’s always easy to sell a jar if you don’t want/like it.

Can you find cheaper soaps that do as well? Yes, but finding one that’s as cheap per shave and does as well is not as easy as one might think. Castle Forbes will beat it, most artisan soaps will cost more to use. Hard soaps made by Valobra or XPEC cream would be others that can rival MdCs cost-performance. Santa Maria Novella is a candidate but costs about the same in the US.

Only thing I can add is that it came down to the lack of skin compatibility for my face and the post shave feel wasn't enjoyable. I don't think it had enough fat percent in it's lather so it left my face dry and tight. The MDC soaps are truly great in many aspects and should be compared against itself as it has lots going for it. But it isn't something I would revisit because I don't think I would enjoy shaving with it but more options that suit my shave's comfort.

I’m surprised you mentioned Castle Forbes. I couldn’t lather that soap if my life depended on it. It was such a terrible performer for me. No issues with any other soaps just this one(lime) it was so bad I gave it away. Many other have expressed excellent results, I wish I was able to side with them as-well. It was just a shame for $60 a tub I was very disappointed after my 3rd time it was over for me. Aside from that using a cream type soap will definitely wear a lot faster than of a triple milled soap. Thanks for shooting out those other soaps as I don’t have them and would love to give them a try.

Wow, I missed this post. I’ve never had an issue with Castle Forbes - I scoop out 1/2 gram smear it in a bowl and bowl lather it.

$60 a tub? You can get it for about $27 USD at shaving.ie or used to be able to.

I used my new-to-me jar of Agrumes for the first time this morning. The same lather as my Rose, Fougere and Vetyver—easy to lather, slick, great fragrance, allows for extensive buffing without re-lathering, great post-shave feel, etc.—for me, it checks all the boxes.

I bought Rose directly from MdC. Great packaging and quick shipping. But too much money. The other three I’ve bought from true gentlemen at very reasonable prices on BSTs. I’ve said it before (as have many others), but the price-per-shave with MdC is much less than most of my modern artisan soaps.

Looking at placing a order for some MDC. The price with shipping will be $81. Is this soap worth the money. Thanks.

Depending on the scents you want, English Shaving Company is now stocking MdC. While a little higher than the direct prices, their shipping is just 1.99 GBP for international shipping. If they have what you are looking for, it may save you a few bucks.

As for the soap, I love it. If you work plenty of water into it, you are rewarded with an outstanding lather and the scents are some of the best in shaving, IMO. YMMV.

There are a few vendors who price for the jar of soap is slightly higher, but the shipping is cheaper and you can come out ahead in the end. But I love the soap.

Martin de Candre makes excellent soaps. Like many others have mentioned, the scents are all very similar to one another and are subtle, but still complex and very soothing to my nose. The performance is great. Perhaps not quite the post-shave feel of Icarus, Excelsior or WK, but still excellent. The best part about MdC is how long the tubs last...I have lathered one of my jars at least 10 times and I don't see the level decreasing at all...amazing. If you don't want to order them direct, you can save a bit of $$ by posting a WTB listing and you just might get lucky like I did. I was able to pick up the four classic scents for around $145!
