all of my manual cars have been 5 speeds as well. when my stepdad used to be a repo man, I would help him transport some cars to his lot. I had NO IDEA how to shift a newer mustang into reverse! I believe in those cars, it's all the way over to the left (between 1-2) and then you push down on the shifter to get it into reverse..

One of the trucks I drive at work is a manual. It has the reverse all the way on the left, which took me a little while to get used to. Also, one of the guys turned the knob around......probably as a way to haze the new guys. Smile

My own personal truck is also manual with the transmission set up like your first pic, so I did do a double take when I first stepped into the work truck.

Anyway, after an initial adjustment period, I've decided that if the work truck ever gets sold, I'd like to buy it. It is a lovely truck to drive. It's a Ford F550, and man, it can haul stuff!
