The Astra blades are quite good. Not the sharpest, but I'd say quite good. They usually work well in any razor and I'm sure you'll get a decent shave using them in the Wilkinson Sword razor, although, that razor is very mild.
Good luck.

How will the Merkur 37c shave with an Astra Superior Platinum blade?

Which blade is sharpest between Gillette Stainless and Astra Superior Platinum?

Alex7 To reply to your post asking about an Astra platinum in a slant Merkur, may not be a bad pairing. Depending on your beard or amount of efficiency you need, consider trying other blades if Astra platinum comes across more mild than you like.

If I remember in earlier years, a Gillette Stainless shaves felt sharper and less smooth on my skin. I preferred green Astras over Gillette stainless. Probably my least favorite Gillette blade. Have fun with the slant shave.

Today I used an Astra Superior Platinum blade in a Wilkinson Sword Classic. Got irritation on the neck on my third pass(the against the grain pass).

Greens were the first blade I learned to hate. I had ordered a shit-ton of them and just buried them in my den. But one morning I tried them in a couple of new razors on a whim, and found love for them in mild razors [ ATTM1, Karve B] . Don't give up, experiment. A staple for me now.

The Wilkinson Sword Classic is a mild razor. I shaved with an Astra Superior Platinum blade and still got irritation when I went against the grain on the mustache and neck.

Me too!!! They were the first blade I realized I hated. I tried them a couple of times many moons ago and got nicked every time. Recently, I decided to try them again and they worked very well for me. hey will definitely not necessarily be a staple blade for me, but I will occasionally use them now. Mind you, these were the Russian version. I have an Indian tuck but have not tried one.

Alex

The razor and blade chosen are only a couple of the factors that affect your shave and whether you experience irritation. You need to optimize all aspects of the shave:

1. Your pre shave beard preparation
2. Your lather- soaps/creams/foams/gels produce significantly different results. Get a high quality soap. Proper hydration of the lather is important as well.
3. You shaving technique, especially shave pressure and shave angle. While you might think that using a less sharp blade like the Astra SP in a mild razor would give the least irritation, that might not be the case if you are applying more pressure during the shave to compensate for lack of sharpness.
4. Your post shave treatment

I have a tough beard and very sensitive skin. I have found that using the sharper blades reduces my irritation because I use less shave pressure.

The Made in India Astra Superior Platinum
blades ( green tuck ) are the exact same blades with the >3x more expensive Gillette
7 o'clock Super Platinum also made in India

(aka "Black Ninjas" ,possibly nicknamed like that due to their inner wrapper which resembles a ninja mask and the black colored outer blade wrap .
They are those in the black tuck ,not the russian made ones ,which have a dark ,marine blue tuck )  .

The EXACT SAME blades.

The new India-made ASP blades have nothing
in common with the older russian or czech ASP ones .
The India made ones are VERY sharp ,
a bit scratchy (or even rough!) on their first shave ,but they get a lot-lot smoother after first use and they usually last for more than
five (three pass) shaves .

They are made in the same facility where the
black ninjas are made and well...yup..they are actually the same blades.Only differences are the printing, wrapping, tucks and of course their price!

Here's a list of sharp blades :
-Bic Chrome-Platinum
-Feather Hi-Stainless
-Wilkinson Sword ( black plastic tuck ,Germany)
-Gillette 7 o'clock Super Platinum (
black carton tuck ,India ) /
Astra Superior Platinum ( India )
-Gillette Permasharp
-Gillette Rubie +
-Gillette Nacet
-Wizamet/Polsilver
-Gillette 7 o'clock SharpEdge (yellow tuck )
-Concord/Bluebird ( same blades,Turkey )
