No worries by me Marko

DFS doesn't appear to have any rules against posting eBay listings. I'm sure some appreciate the heads up on these type of items.

All evidence has been buried. All tapes have been erased.

Is done in every shaving forum, so it doesn't bother me. That razor doesn't need internet hype, it wasn't going to stay at $95.00.

An eBay listing from a blogger just seems wrong to me.

But I'm probably alone on that.

probably not....since the individual who is running the ebay ad is more than likely not going to be the one to post it here.

There is absolutely zero chance of anyone getting a deal on eBay that is posted on a forum.

so what?  if people think it's worth $228.50 (which is what it's up to now), then they'll pay it....if not, then they won't.

Interesting. I haven't seen it done on B&B or TSN. I'm not familiar with the other boards but am guessing Reddit and the FB groups allow.

I wasn't asking you to change the rules, you can do what you want. It as my personal opinion, that's all.

Enough people use DFS for the BST only as it is, why not allow live eBay auction links in the hardware section too. It was never moved, Mods saw it, so I guess the floodgates are open now.

I'll be sure to post my live eBay auction links for rare brushed and razors here too...since it seems not only allowed but encouraged?

Thanks for clarifying.

Hi @bruce as a newer member of the mod team I will chime in with my perspective.

I do feel Marko was posting a PSA to those that may be looking for a Wolfman or BBS and as it was not HIS post/listing feel it was handled appropriately but understand the perspective that perhaps it should have been listed in the BST section.

I do also acknowledge that we have a very small subset of members who do use our and other forums solely to move product with little other contributions. As long as done in the spirit of the DFS community and not attempting to take advantage of our members, I do monitor but have not seen anything "untoward" nor felt I had to take any direct action thus far.

I will definitely take your feedback into consideration as I want to ensure that we all feel comfortable with our community-

K

Nah, don't do that, @Bruce. Marko was just being helpful, knowing the pent up demand for the Wolfman product. On a smaller, more collegial board, like DFS, such things can be done without the need for rules covering every move that can and cannot be made. Your proposed action will only entice similar action by others and then, "Katie bar the door", here come the rules!

Kevin, thanks for clarifying.  Would it have made a difference if I didn't paste the link but just mentioned I'd seen the item on eBay?  I didn't mean to create an international incident.  I did read the rules on BST and as I wasn't selling anything I didn't think the post fit there and I have no connection to the vendor in any way and I'm not receiving any commission or anything like that.  I was simply intending to make people aware of an item for sale that they might be interested in.

I've been on DFS since the beginning of October and its the first and only forum I'm active on so I'm a bit of a newb regarding unwritten rules and so forth.  If I unwittingly breach rules of etiquette or whatnot, I would appreciate being informed of my error, albeit in a gentle and respectful manner, which is from my experience the way things are done at DFS.

Thanks for the opportunity to clear up any misunderstandings that anyone may have had regarding my intentions with this post.  I enjoy this forum and the community of members and I wouldn't want anything to impair that.
Cheers,
Mark

Bruce, you are probably right about TSN and B&B. But heck, they don't really need to allow it since, at least on of the two, they let "their boys" list items on the BST at outrageous prices, while they either ban or remove listings when a regular member does it.

Either way, I understand your concern but I wouldn't worry much my friend.

Marko , no problem from my perspective and appreciate all your contributions to the community. As with anything, we have a positive dialogue around this particular subject, which I fully support as always, but I think the particular case is closed at this point. No harm, no foul.

I agree that Marko was just trying to be helpful, and that nothing wrong was done. This should be obvious to anyone. To suggest otherwise, put down other forums, or imply DFS should be the same as other forums... shows an ungentlemanly cynicism towards people in general, and an insulting, out of whack fear/paranoia for shilling or pandering.

One of the things I like best about DFS is that the lack of so many pedantic rules and regulations shows that the admin/mod team respects its members enough to act like adults who have common ethics and integrity.

Society's standards of ethics is pretty well understood by everyone, and if someone is clearly acting dishonestly or in a self serving way, the mods can handle those isolated cases individually. The rest of us can just continue to act like gentleman with integrity.

This is why I see no problem with Marko's post. Thanks for trying to be helpful... Smile

And let us keep DFS as a special place set apart, where the mods don't have to babysit, where gentlemen can act as, and assume others are, gentleman, until they prove themselves otherwise.
