Consecutive Daily Shaves - # 1,711

Another beautiful and comfortable shave with the Athena. I'm not saying this razor is not worth more but at the $250 with shipping and currency conversion it cost me, it's at the peak price point and I wouldn't go higher for on this razor, but that's just me. It is a work of art and attention to detail by someone who obviously cares about what he produces which is becoming less common today. That's all I'll say on it and hope all have a great day !

The other reason I comment sometimes on the price of this razor is that I wouldn’t want other members to undervalue it and assume it cannot be as good as other, higher priced razors. They might spend significantly more money and receive something lesser, and that would be a pity. I think we should let one another know if we think something is a great value.

I certainly don't want to put words in anyone's mouth (or suggest censoring oneself) but there is quite
a difference between saying "friendly price" / "great value".and the extreme hyperbole
I often see...."costs only a fraction of what it should" and "should be priced three times more".
Just wondering if that is necessary.

The average punter here is pretty savvy and can spot quality when they see it...look at Sascoman's excellent
photographs that showcase this device way better than even the manufacturer does.
I think we gotta enjoy this stuff without making the heads of these artisans swell up and not contribute
to inflation LOL. But hey, do what you want...I was just airing an opinion...that's still allowed even if
unpopular, right?
Yes, your opinion is fine to air. I can respond to it too with my own opinion, and none of it is any sort of attack on you - just a different opinion and an attempt to explain or substantiate my point of view. I enjoy reading your posts, including that one, though you might have held back on suggesting that I and others were engaging in some nefarious attempt at price manipulation. I don’t think any of us would do that. We can trust each others’ motives here, with very rare exceptions.

I’d just add that there’s no real way for people to know that a particular $200 razor might be of comparable quality to a $600 razor, unless people who own both say so. We need some sort of confirmation from others that what we think we see is really the case. Look at the reaction to Rocnel releasing a part-titanium adjustable for $300, which looks very similar to their Sailor that sells for $600 and with more expensive metal for the handle. The prevailing reaction seems to be “what’s wrong with it?” or “what has been left off that the Sailor has and this doesn’t?”. It’s a natural reaction to think something cheaper must not be as good. In this case I think we’re all waiting for some members to try the razor and tell us if it is as good as the Sailor, for half the price, or why it isn’t as good. I didn’t feel confident to buy one yet even though as far as we can see it looks like far superior value compared to the Sailor.

Same thing the other way round. I remember when Carbon entered the market and immediately priced its razors at the top - $500 or thereabouts. The finish quality at the time wasn’t a match for similarly priced razors, and a few pointed this out but others raved about it. I bought a Carbon Cx Ti later on and didn’t like it for many reasons, and I don’t like the way it shaves. I’d say it’s a $200 razor priced at $500, and I would have benefited if others had said so. Or maybe they don’t think that and it’s just me. Either way, I think we need this validation when experienced users are confident to make this kind of comparative judgement.

It’s all good anyway. Just wanted to make a counter argument to your point, and then people can judge for themselves where they stand on the question.

"might have"...says it all, doesn't it hahaha.
I know exactly what I'm typing and choose my words carefully...to have a prickly reaction
to a statement that doesn't even constitute an allegation suggests a rather thin skin...no shortage
of that in shaving forums.

Anyway, love the Carbon CX ++ in SS...and can't stand the ugly handle on Athena.
Different strokes for different blokes.

I’ve been on the Ares waitlist for a while and just got the email yesterday that a batch of 50 were done and ready. I placed my order this morning but no VAT was deducted, is this normal?

Also for the Ares owners: have you found a stand that works well with this razor?

Im a Lambda Lover so love both equally Evilgrin   ….
that said they arrive at a very similar final shave result differently …..  Heart

The Athena sets the standard for smooth close comfortable daily driver (please note I shave daily so that’s my only point of reference).  The Ares V2 provides similar results but perhaps a touch more efficient and with ever so slightly more blade feel.

Some days I am looking for  the super smooth and some days I am looking for a touch of blade feel knowing that regardless of which I grab the shave will be sublime.
