It would be interesting to see what the same shaving time spent with the AlumiGoose V2 as the straight razor will produce. You could be making a case for the comfort, convenience and effectiveness of the AlumiGoose to replace the straight.Hey, Roger, interesting questions, these. My straight technique is improving, but it's not to the point where 15 minutes straight vs. 15 minutes AlumiGoose would be an apples-to-apples comparison. But even without "scientific" testing, I think the answer has been clear since the early 20th century: a safety razor wins for convenience and pretty much ties for the quality of the shaves. An unguarded blade (straight or devette) has an advantage at the outer edges of closeness, IMO, but some may dispute this.
Has the Straight replaced the DEvette?
Nothing will ever replace my devettes! The ease and closeness of the shaves are incomparable. When the ATT SE was announced, I decided to try the Feather straight as a way of experiencing the Artist Club blades, and just for the sake of a new challenge. I thought this might be a "cost-effective" way of deciding whether to go for the ATT. Silly me. I've since acquired a Feather DX straight in addition to the SS; total outlay: about $350.
