I've been a big fan of using Jojoba oil in my preshave routine during the colder months. I massage it directly onto to my beard then apply a hot towel. I then lather on top of it and begin to shave.

I find this gives me an incredibly smooth face feel vs not using the oil. Best of all, the Jojoba oil does not leave my face feeling greasy and does not affect lather quality.

Anyone else experiment with Jojoba oil?

I’ve used vegetable glycerine as a pre-shave oil a few times, without the hot towel. I think it has helped at those times when I possibly had some irritation from a previous shave and couldn’t afford to get more irritation. I don’t use it regularly, though.

Lately it seems like jojoba oil comes up every now and then because of its marvelous properties; good to hear it is working so well for you and perhaps I’ll soon try it, as well.

Whenever I go to shave, I assume there’s someone else on the planet shaving, so I say “I’m gonna go shave, too.”

I used beard oil as a pre-shave for a few months, just to see if it improved my shaves. At the time, it did not seem so, as the use of the oil seemed to make my lather "sticky", instead of slick.

Now...looking back, I was still new to using traditional brush and soap, and my lathering skills were sorely lacking in technique and consistency. At this point, I am forced to wonder how much of that "stickiness" was due to bad form on my part rather than bad combination with the oils...??

I may have to try it again, just to have an answer to that question...

I had the same issue with some off the shelf 'beard oils' but never with Jojoba oil.

That will satisfy my curiosity. I presume you have much more experience than I, with similar results...good enough for me! lol

I don't use jojoba oil as a pre-shave, no, but I do use it in my beard oils and it keeps my hair and face nice and soft.

I use pre-shave oil made of plant esters and squalane. This combo is not oily or greasy and it absorbs well into the skin. It leaves the skin slick and ready for the lather and razor. I do not use it every day just those days where I had a bad shave the previous day and skin has not recovered enough for the next shave.

Jojoba oil is great stuff. Haven't used it in a while but it's one of those carrier oils that is very close to our own natural sebum which makes it a great choice for anyone regardless of their skin type.
