I have several ikon razors and I pretty much like them all. The 102 slant is probably my favourite ikon, followed by the 101, the X3 slant, the B1 OSS and also the 103 Short Comb. I've long eyed the Tech but I've always been frightened off by claims that its the most aggressive razor on the planet. Until now. After getting a little more familiar with the 103 and realizing that its basically a double open comb Tech, I decided to get a Tech. Hard to find. Its out of stock virtually everywhere but I did manage to find it at Fendrihan where its not even listed as a Tech - you have to dig into the Q&A where they confirm that it a Tech head. So I got it, now we'll see if I can slay that dragon.

My question is, why are ikon razors getting so hard to find (new ones)? Are they out of business? I don't know if Greg has moved on to his next business venture or if sales have dropped off because of all the competition out there but I still think ikon razors are pretty decent shavers.

Any thoughts?

there was a Massdrop sale not long a go so they must be in business, maybe things are much quieter now because there is too much competition

I've never tried any of their razors. I read about really bad customer service and stayed away. Although this was several years ago and I don't know if it is still true.

I think they are still in business. I was on their website a few weeks ago to see what the Ikon Tech is selling for these days. They were in stock from what I could see.

Marko, I shaved with my Tech this morning. Yes, it's aggressive. I find it requires a very steep angle paired with a smooth blade of choice. I can regularly get BBS in 2 passes with touch ups. No irritation today. This razor can definitely bite of you don't maintain discipline.

I don't find anything really scary about it as long as you pay it respect when shaving.

Greg is still in business as most of his razors are listed for sale. Only a guess but I believe the razor heads are made in New Jersey and handles in Thailand.

In reverse order: iKon is still around. As mentioned earlier, they’ve recently done a couple of drops on Massdrop, which can’t be a small thing. And their slightly barebones website is still up and running: https://www.ikonrazors.com/ There just seems to be an ebb-and-flow to their availability. Very recently, they brought back a few stainless steel heads that I thought were gone for good.

There was also recently a dispute over one of their designs. I hope that gets sorted out. From what I know about the matter, it seems entirely unnecessary.

As for the iKon ShaveCraft 104 Tech — in my book, it is a tremendous razor, and my favorite iKon to date. I don’t find it to be as angle-specific as some others do. My advice would be to just use the lightest touch, and enjoy the incredible efficiency it’ll then provide. I’m eager to hear your thoughts after a few shaves.

Whenever I go to shave, I assume there’s someone else on the planet shaving, so I say “I’m gonna go shave, too.”

I think this is a great question and discussion... Quite frankly, I myself was wondering what was up with Ikon. It seems as if they slowly fell off the map. While I don't have a lot of their razors, the two that I do have are nice shavers. In fact, one of them, the Ikon 102 slant, is actually one of my favorite razors! It was probably one of the first razors that I fell in love with... And of course, then came the "great ones" (my 3 Timeless razors, 3 Charcoal Goods razors, ATT slant, Wolfman, Colonial General SE razor, etc.)... Despite the "great razors" looking excellent and having far superior build quality, the Ikon 102 slant still delivers excellent shaves for me and I still include it in my rotation right next to the "big guys". So I say if Ikon is still around (they appear to be), you can't go wrong with their 102 slant imo... It's a mild feeling razor but it manages to still be quite efficient imo, which I'm assuming is with the assistance of the slant razor's design (it's slanted/tilted but without twisting/torquing the blade, which is my preference in a slant... I get along better with slants that do not torque the blade).
