Inspiration and Ideas for a Video on Badger Brushes

Hello Gentlemen of DFS,

I have been toying with the idea of posting a video discussion that covers a bit about different types of the animals (badgers) themselves, origin (where they are from), sterilization and/or treatment of hair, sorting and/or grading of hair, knot construction and shaping, characteristics of types of knots, and what I would like to see from the market concerning badger brushes.

Any comments, ideas, suggestions, topics on what you may like to see touched on?

I would start with the purchase of a PRIME winter pelt. You can readily find them on EBAY but they are not craft store rabbit pelts for $ 1.99 plus tax. Videos lacking lots of actual material are to dependent on the presenter's charisma. Ask yourself, and learn why badgers and the completed knots are largely a Chinese effort. There are exceptions of course and Plisson still sells a European sourced knot. Some nations have various animal protections in place or the trapping is proscribed by urban development. The UK is home to a very active badger protection society ( Hyacinth Bucket thinking PETA is a dirty magazine) but obviously a very active brushmaking industry. All the information is out there; both shaving forums and not. Some of it is patently in error including a noble, but wrong effort to delineate the grades on a pelt photo. Totally unrelated, but whimsically fun would be mention of the badger in literature ( THE WIND IN The WILLOWS) folklore and first people's creation and morality stories such as Badger cooperating with God's Dog / Trickster Coyote.

Gentlemen of Damn Fine Shave...

I will receive two new badger brushes soon. What are some of your expectations when breaking in a new badger knot? I would love to hear how much someone may want their brush to change or remain more similar to it's initial break-in phase.

I'd like to offer my experience and help on care of a new brush, so questions are welcomed as well.

Unless you are getting the Shavemac D-01 2-Band, most badger knots will not really 'break-in'. They will soften, very slightly after a few shaves and over time, but there will be no significant change in the knot/tips of the shafts of hair, IN GENERAL, as you would experience with boar brushes.
