I don't have one of those lathering bowls with bridges in the base.
So I'm just wetting the brush and swirling it over the croap with the container
held upside down, so that water doesn't seep in and create a mushy mess.

Could I be doing things better or differently?

You could remove some a bit at a time with a makeup spoon and smear it around your face or the bottom of the bowl.  Then build your lather from there.  A finger works in a pinch.  Lather lightly until the cream is well distributed over the bulb.  Also, check out this post by AimlessWanderer and read down the page to this post.  You may find something helpful.  (I did.)

After reading this thread I made an impulse buy of the soap and aftershave. It finally arrived and I will be giving both a try tomorrow.

Ok this is getting crazy...I passed by the boutique again yesterday and started thinking horrible thoughts.

Retail is doing so badly, what if Covid causes the boutique to close down? Permanently. OMG, what will I do then?

So I bought another tub.

LOL

I'm not a fan of their fragrances or aftershaves, but I did receive samples of a non-alcoholic
after shave lotion, called EMULSIONE ANALCOLICA (an unfortunate name).

It's got some good ingredients and leaves your face feeling quite smooth and non-oily.

You are a man after my own heart sir!

Many of their fragrances are a bit odd, and the emulsione analcolica is no exception, a citrus with a funky note, though the fragrance doesn't persist. It is exceptionally well performing as you note.

May I suggest the alcohol-based lavender AS splash, it is one of the best lavenders around.
