Well, I have not shaved with the Futur, but I hope you don’t mind me commenting anyway.
I have the Mühle R41 (2013), and it was my main razor when traveling the other summer. I did not use it more than every other day, usually. It is great for mowing down 2–5 days of stubble, and those are always great shaves with the R41. It’s a real weed whacker! But it has a tendency to “over-exfoliate” my skin in daily use, causing some tingling and sensitivity. (This even when using the lightest touch possible.)
So, to sum it up — close shaves: yes. Comfortable: (in my case) not if used too often. I hope someone with both Futur and R41 experience can chime in.

Whenever I go to shave, I assume there’s someone else on the planet shaving, so I say “I’m gonna go shave, too.”

I have used all three, R41 2011 & 2013 and Futur, and I found the former ones to be more aggressive than the latter set at 6.
However, YMMV.
Having said this, I did not enjoy the shaves with all three razors. However, when having the Futur set at setting 3 or lower, it was fine, but still not as comfortable as other razors.
You can always just order the R41 head from Connaught if you have a spare handle if you wanted to try it.
Good luck.

Not anymore. Connaught discontinued Muhle products and sold out of R41 heads already. I have no idea why they stopped carrying them though.
Hi,
I have (among many razors) a futur and an R41 Twist. To be honest, they are two completely different animals that give some of the best shaves around. If you have been shaving with the futur, and shaving nick free, the R41 should be easy, since both require an ultra light touch. The only real difference (well one of many actually) is the angle. The R41 has a shallow angle, where as the Futur can work with the typical 30-45 angle.
Hope this helps.
