I usually use a DE blade 3 times and toss it out. I’m sure I could get more uses but I’ve never really tried.

There is one thing I did notice.  It is razor and blade dependent.  In a mild razor like the Overlander I can get more shaves than a BB.

So 1-4 shaves depending on the combination.

Must be like shaving with a butter knife.

I just watched that video. He only has to do cheeks and neck, but 538 times is pretty impressive.

Three times unless it is something special. I just got some rainbow blades that I might have pushed past three. It is not worth it to me to hack my face as I have to shave daily.

A recent post on social media by an individual highlighting passages from, “The Man and His Wonderful Shaving Device,” by Russell Adams:

Quote:... 1927 survey conducted by the American Advertising Agency- Batten, Barton, Durstine & Osborn:

In practice, of course, few shavers sought to husband their blades to the last dim vestiges of keenness, and BBD&O’s 1927 survey showed that the average American - who shaved, by the way, 4.4 times a week - was able to squeeze out 8.5 shaves per blade. The number of shaves reported most frequently by the survey subjects, however, was three, considerably more gratifying from a sales standpoint.

For myself, 2 uses is the practical limit for most DE blades. For SE blades it varies by format and razor combination, but typically it is between 5 to 7 uses. Although my current personal record is 11 uses (and planning to push that higher) with the Schick Twin II injector blade.

I have been known to hyper-mile a few blades to 100 uses (Astra SP, Feather, Personna Blue, Gillette Silver Blue) but beyond 80 it begins to be less fun.
Thirty seemed to be a point of decline too.

There's this early Gillette safety razor ad.

[Image: 674px-Gillette_safety_razor_advert_in_Th...C_1905.jpg]

"24 Sharp Edges, Each Blade giving from 20 to 40Smooth and Delightful Shaves" — Ummm . . . puffery?

"12 NEW DOUBLE-EDGED BLADES, $1" Prices have not gone up much since then, if you buy them 100 at a time. That's amazing.

As an aside: I just noticed also that they refer to the "holder" as a separate component. I guess they meant "razor" to refer to a holder loaded with a blade.
