...and how long have you been using a brush to lather them?

For me...I started in September of 2013.

Still, I haven't used up any entire soap/cream just from shaving. Zero.

E tu?

However...if I include soaps/creams that I've used to practice (extensively) or to wash my face, and therefore not exclusively for shaving, then I have finished a short list:

Floris No. 89 cream tube (used for shaving and washing face while traveling)
AoS tallow Unscented and Sandalwood (extensive "practice")
Czech & Speake No. 88 (extensive "practice")

Your experience sounds familiar. I started this “hobby” (for lack of a better term) almost exactly eight years ago. I finished my first soap long ago — it was a jar of Taconic cream. After that, my soap acquisition disorder has gotten so out of hand, that the only soaps I’ve used up have been sample-sized.

Eight years ago is when I also started using a brush. I jumped right in by getting a DE razor (Weber), a brush (Parker), and a lathering bowl, in addition to the Taconic.

My goal this year is to focus more on the soaps that I enjoy the most. (There are many.) If I can really narrow my focus, perhaps I’ll finally finish a full-size soap or cream.

Whenever I go to shave, I assume there’s someone else on the planet shaving, so I say “I’m gonna go shave, too.”

I started this in 2013 and I've finished five soaps so far: 2 jars of Tabac, B&M Ferox, B&M Beaudelaire (close to finishing another), B&M Lavanille

I started with traditional wet shaving around Oct 2016 and bought a used tub, (maybe 5 oz of the original 5.8 oz), of Stirling Margarita's in The Arctic around April 2017 and just finished it with my new years shave on the 1st... I still have 5 other tubs of Stirling I've been working on since 2017 so I think I'm good to go for a while yet!!

I finished alot. I cannot really count, but Im certain several tubes and tubs of proraso soaps and creams, tabac pucks, Speick sticks, Mystic Water unscented pucks, probably a half brick of cella, a tub of ABC cream and more. I really like to use a soap from start to finish, and I think that assists in using it quicker, even if it is marginal, as it does not have a chance to dry out and harden.

I will say though that within the last couple of weeks I have bought twice the amount of soaps and creams ive bought in the past two years, so that may change a bit.  I have purposefully kept my den spartan so as not to tempt me from finishing what I start.  I'm also a daily face and head shaver, so I probably use double the soap of a daily face shaver.

Started Feb 2015. Since then I've finished tubs of BaM Adagio, Dapper Dragon Obi Hill, Wholly Kaw Monaco Royale, BaM Latha Original, Mystic Water Orange Vanilla, and BaM Beaudelaire (Excelsior). So 6 soaps in 5 years. I currently own around 30 but many, many more have passed through my den. For this year I'm going to try and focus on finishing more of what I have and practice as much restraint as possible with buying new soaps.
