How long will your shave den last?

I try to be disciplined about not buying more stuff than I "need", so I refrain from buying new things until I am getting close to running out.  As a rule, if I have more than six months of supplies I can't buy anything.  Now, I have ways around that rule.   For example, I have to have different stuff for each of the four seasons so if I have a year's worth of spring, fall and summer stuff, but only four month's worth of winter stuff then I can buy more winter stuff. 

Using the above rubric, I went though my shave den today and figured out that I have more than six month supplies of stuff for each of the four seasons.  To my dismay, in total I have about four years worth of soaps, two years worth of aftershaves,  years worth of touch up blades ( I shave with a SR and only use a safety for the back of my neck and clean up passes).  So, if I shaved every other day (I don't, I only shave three days per week), ignored my seasonal rules,and I stretched out my supplies, my den would probably last for about 3-4 years.  


I am curious:  if you stopped buying stuff today, how long would your shave den last and how do you feel about that?

Given that I get 12 shaves per DE blade, and I am 71 years old, I might just have more blades than I'll ever need. I'll have to do an inventory and some arithmetic.
At any rate, no more buying 100 at a time.

For soaps, probably a couple of years worth, if I use the stuff I'm not really crazy about. 
I keep track of how many tubs are used up since my last order, and once I use up enough to buy enough more to get free shipping, I place an order. 
Maybe less than enough, because I'll add at least one aftershave to the order. I do want to limit the total soap inventory to what can fit in a special soap-only basket. 
It's something on the order of one peck, by volume. (You young fellers can look that one up.  )

I do like those color coded Fine Accoutrements soap dishes. I imagine having one each of he original FA tallow soaps to match each dish with the matching A/S bottle.

I had a red one once with the matching lather bowl but I chipped the bowl and gave the matching dish away.......

I have way more soaps and matching aftershaves than I will ever use. 
I try to be good at rotating soaps, brushes and razors, so generally I use a new item each day.  I too, have essentially summer and winter/fall fragrances.  I’m guessing that I use more of the summer scents, but Sterling “Island Man” when it’s 24 below just isn’t going to happen.

i think the bigger question is…a bottle of aftershave seemingly lasts disproportionately longer than the equal soap, so am I destined to end up with a gazillion orphaned aftershaves?  I suppose by then I’ll be out of retirement savings and I can make cocktails with the remaining Baudelaire?
next question…after I move on to the big shaving den in the sky, what does my family do with the $1000’s of shaving goodies?

I have a collection of DE razors, blades, straight razors, brushes, soaps and aftershaves that should last me the rest of my life, even if I live to be 100. Unfortunately, there is no one interested in the collection should I die sooner. Currently, the only male in my family who might be a possibility is my son-in-law. He currently shaves with an electric shaver. I hope he might be interested once he retires in 10 years or so. I also hope my granddaughter will marry someone whom I might get interested in wet shaving.

I used an electric for a long time too, but I never really got along with any of them.


With my beard, they are good for a quick touch up and that is about all.

Patriot : it is interesting....for me soaps last longer than after shaves, but I use a very generous palm fulls of aftershave, sometimes two.

I really love alcohol based aftershaves as long as they are not sticky (e.g. glycerine).

Also, I tend to face lather and I think that is less wasteful than bowl lathering.

I calculate that I can go about 4-5 years  with what I have now.  At my age, it might be more than I need.
