Who is 'they'?  Shavemac, Simpson, Wiborg - they have their own recognized type of badger knots.  For example, Simpsons 2-band and Manchurian are far superior to offerings by others; Shavemac's D0-1 2-band and 3-band and 2-band silvertip are quite distinct and superb performers; Wiborg's white badger is both beautiful and a super performer.  However, nothing that even comes close can be found.  (The word is that TGN's Finest is not what it once was-it was quite good). From where do these brushmakers get these super duper knots?  Are they specially treated?  These  knots that cannot be found [by me] anywhere on the net.  This includes other brushes, other vendors or other wholesalers that advertise on the net.  WTF is going on?

Knots or hair? Most of these guys (Shavemac and Simpson at least) are buying hair and then making the knots in house. You can find hair online but good luck making a knot. I'm guessing Simpson and Shavemac have exclusive dealers and you wouldn't be able to buy from their supplier, even if you found out who it was.

Wiborg is unconfirmed if they make knots or have them made and I haven't seen proof for either side.

All evidence has been buried. All tapes have been erased.

Whether it is knots or hair, I wonder where the hell they get it from. You're right, they may get the hair and make the knots. But either way, the basic question is the same.

We will never know, it would be considered a trade secret. And it isn't "they may", Shavemac & Simpson make their own knots from bulk hair, as do a few other brush makers.

If the source of Shavemac & Simpson hair got out, it would diminish it's value as it would be sold everywhere. Same goes for Wiborg, Kent, Rooney or any name brand brush.

We all get it from the same place. It's how it's graded and treated that makes the difference.

Thank you.  This is more of a wild and wacky business than I thought.
