Here's my two cents:

First, I completely understand your wanting to treat yourself with a really nice razor. The advice about the Rockwell 6S is good, in that it's an excellent shaver with multiple plates, it's just a bit plain looking. Bang for the buck, at $100, you can't go wrong.

For the 'treat' aspect, there's nothing like the Wolfman. The craftsmanship, fit, and finish are second to none. Since you use a '51 Super Speed, most of those from that era were .58mm blade gaps, so a standard Wolfman with a .61 blade gap should work well. The only issue with the Wolfman is availability-the choices are waitlist, or finding one on a BST.

Timeless Razors are right up there with the Wolfman, and excellent shavers. They are really good looking as well, especially the scalloped cap. You can get the TRs in either .68mm or .95mm base plates. Great shaver, beautiful to look at, and available. Perhaps a bit less 'sleek' than the Wolfman, but a beautiful razor.

Charcoal Goods makes an outstanding razor, another great shaver, and the attention to craftsmanship is excellent. I enjoy my shaves with both the SB and OC varieties, and the Level 2 plate (middle of the range) is close in feel to the WR .61mm and a bit milder feeling than the TR .68. With the antiqued finishes, it's a real looker. They're brass and copper, so no stainless offerings at this point, but a great shaving 'high-end' razor.

The Blackbird from Blackland is another good 'high-end' choice, great looking razor, and a fine shaver: It's the top pick of many DE connoisseurs.

The Feather AS-D2 was one of my first 'high-end' razors, and is an excellent, solid razor, albeit too mild for many, including myself.

I'd be remiss not to mention the OneBlade-not a DE razor, uses a proprietary blade, etc., etc. Beautiful to look at and a razor I love but hate that I love it. Gives a great shave every single time, no technique necessary. Expensive, but a 30-day money back guarantee and lifetime warranty.

Excellent info. Thanks!

Interesting so far. I was thinking you would get one of three responses;

A) No response, members believing they are being baited into a discussion about the meaning of life and all things potmetal and titianium (which is an on again off again discussion),

B) A list of recommendations, baiting members to discuss the meaning of life and all things potmetal and titanium, or

C) A mix of both members obstaining and being baited Into discussing the meaning of life and all things potmetal and titanium! Yes, I took the bait on the discussion because at the end of the day it is fun and that's kinda why we are here!

I vote for a mixture of quality shave and high end price. Get several;

Muhle R41 in Rosegold
Oneblade
A Gillette Fatboy toggle or slim Aristocrat NOS if you must spend the money, and
Your choice of a Charcoal, Wolfman or Timeless in any configuration.
A Darwin if you want bragging rights.

Have a good one!

A. Why does life have to have a meaning? B. There's an Italian village where they annually pelt each other with tomatoes. If all the owners of SS razors lined up on one side of a riverbank facing all the owners of Zymack razors how many casualties would each side carry off the field with injuries from hurled razors?

I think we are approaching peak wolfman. Other vendors are stepping in to meet demand for expensive machined razors and equilibrium will be reached in time. On the other hand, there are as many NOS Gillette Toggles as there ever will be in the world. If I had money to burn I'd start by hunting down some razors that will only get scarcer with time.

Meanwhile, I am waiting for our seeker of Excaliber to select and receive his as a chorus sings ODE TO JOY from the 9th. Finding a package in the mail is ALWAYS fun.

For the record I would hate to be hit by an R41 or a Timeless...so....

I concur that the Rockwell 6s is the razor you would like - it looks great, shaves great and costs about $100 which is high end for some folks. You could go for the Rockwell C which is just coming out - its the 6s in chrome finish.

I have a Wolfman WR-1, an ATT M2, Feather AS-D2 most of the ikons and a few vintage Gillettes and if I had to cull the herd to just 1 razor it would probably be the Rockwell.

Or if you want to really get a tricked out razor, get whatever razor you like coated by Jay at Delta Echo.
