Heading down there to pick up a razor on Monday... I did ask a few questions through email though:

When asked about production staying in Canada (specifically their production facilities in Cambridge, Ontario):
- Absolutely. We will always be producing here in Canada. Our production capacity is VERY high and there is nowhere else that can create the tight tolerances that we need to make this razor what it is.

Stainless Steel or Brass versions coming?
- Sorry. But I can neither confirm or deny that at this point...stay tuned

Are there new designs or models in the plans for the future?
Similar to #2. Nothing that I can tell you at this point, but to this point I'll add that we think we have a really great current design. Maybe additional handles and different aggressiveness of plates for the future, but nothing on the horizon. We are loving the support of the wet shaving community, but also looking to keep things simple and help the cartridge and disposable users to convert to a better shave experience and lowering their environmental impact.

Can't wait to pick up the razor Monday and give it a go.

So first shave with the Henson Men’s today and all I can say is this razor is fun, unlike any of the 100+ razors I own. I think Henson has built a razor for their target audience, converting big box cart shavers to a less wasteful way of shaving. It’s mild feeling but with some buffing (more than I like) I managed a BBS shave, the first thing I noticed with the angular head is the angle sets itself. The next thing I noticed was no real perceptible blade feel. Despite doing a lot of buffing there was no irritation. At the end of the day it delivered a great shave. My only nitpick with the razor is the length of the handle, it’s not unwieldy but it’s longer than I prefer, but that’s a personal preference. I made this purchase to support a new company that manufactures in North America at a reasonable price to use as a travel razor and I think it is very capable of delivering a quick shave on the go or spend a little extra time to get a fantastic shave. This may become my new recommend razor for new shavers wanting to get into DE shaving as it’s very intuitive and very safe feeling and at the price point a quality piece that should last for years

So I shaved with this razor this morning, mainly because it was a topic of conversation. It's a different shave from anything else I've shaved with. Why do I say that? First, the aluminum is ridiculously light. It's the lightest thing I've shaved with and that includes the titanium razors I've shaved with. It holds the blade just like any other DE razor I've used. I'll try to get pictures up tonight with the head apart. The fit and finish is really good. While the blade gap may be large, the actual blade exposure is tiny. That's what I was trying to show in the pictures. It's almost impossible to cut yourself with this razor. So what does all of this mean? You have to apply some pressure to shave with this razor. The weight, combined with the blade exposure means you can't shave without more pressure than a normal SS DE.

 

The shave - I used Dr. Jon's this morning with a Nacet blade and I got a BBS shave with this razor. My technique was a standard 3 pass shave with some clean-up. The blade is held very rigid in the head, but with so little blade exposure and weight, you have to press down pretty hard to actually cut hair. One thing I did notice is that I had to rinse the head more often than normal to clear out cream and hair build up. I typically do long strokes when I shave, but it's really not appropriate with this razor because of the amount of pressure. Shorter strokes lead to better results. I had no issues getting the razor into problem areas under the nose because of the head configuration.

 

My three passes were WTG, ATG, XTG respectively. After the shave, I had some cleanup, which is normal with all but the most efficient of razors for me. Primarily, on my jaw line and chin. I did another quick pass and was smooth as silk. Now, 5 hours later, I'm still smooth. Overall, I'm impressed. It's not the best shave I've ever had, but it's pretty darn good. When I got the razor, I was skeptical. I don't generally like light razors. Then, when I put a blade in the thing and saw that there's so little blade exposure, I thought I'd be switching to the Wolfman or Alpha mid-shave, but I was wrong. I've shaved with this razor twice and the result have been good. Really good.

I have 2 shaves in now with the Henson razor and the only difference for me is I did not need to add a lot of pressure to get a 3 pass BBS. Because of the small amount of blade extruding from the razor I used ETHOS soap with more water than normal to get a thin, slick lather and this razor gave a very mindless 3 pass BBS shave 2 days in a row. I believe this would be a wonderful First DE razor, it is easy to maneuver and very little chance of cutting yourself.
