I completed three shaves during my time with the Henson aluminum razor. But, before I get to those, the Henson is one well produced razor, both from a perspective of coating and design.
I have come to prefer heavier razors and shorter handles,.so this would not look to be in my normal sweet spot. But, it's such a handsome razor that it's something that is worth the effort to get accustomed to. Now, onto the shaves....
Shave 1
Blade - Rapira Platinum Lux (2nd use)
Soap - Fine Platimum
Aftershave - Captain's Choice Venture
This was perhaps the best shave I have ever had from an aluminum razor. I did three passes and very little buffing or touch ups. There was more aggression than I was expecting. I did not have noticeable stubble for 9-10 hours later. Overall,.wonderful and enjoyable maiden voyage with the Henson.
Shave 2
Blade - Rapira Platinum Lux (3rd use)
Soap/AS - Strike Gold Shave Honest Abe
As enjoyable as the first shave was, I carved myself up worse than my Thanksgiving turkey. Maybe the worst shave since my newbie days, almost three years ago. The lather was so good, both in performance and scent, I still am shocked it went off the rails. But, every once in a while, you have a bad shave.
Shave 3
Blade - Gillette Silver Blue (first use)
Soap/AS - Declaration Grooming Darkfall
Shave three was much closer to shave #1. I am thinking it could have been the fresh blade. I took an extra day between shaves to recover a bit more from my rougher outing. I cut the passes down to WTG, ATG and a couple very light touch ups and I had nearly the same shave quality that I have with more passes.
Overall thoughts - While I don't think aluminum is my perfect format, I definitely realize the impressive build quality of the Henson razor and would recommend anyone liking lighter razors to give this a try. I would definitely be interested in future offerings in either stainless steel or titanium. Thanks to Henson Shaving & andrewjs18 for the opportunity to park in this passaround.
Razor has been shipped to Hardrock.
