hush , thanks for the positive comments.

Your comment isn't the first one I've heard regarding residual slickness, though I haven't received feedback letting me know that change in the formulation is needed. I think of my soap as a good, honest, high-quality soap rather than a best of the best.

Definitely NOT a call for a change in your product formula! Again, that is what relathering is for! Agreed, solid product. Looking forward to future shaves with Hendrix Classics. Stamp on the envelope was cool touch.

It want's to charge me $3.99 shipping.
Boar brushes, brass razors, and hard pucks ARE traditional wet shaving. Everything else is modern day fluff for the girly men.

Another good shave with your soap tonight. I face lathered tonight and got a great lather. Gave me good protection using my Dart for a BBS 3 pass shave

Toby, I found you in the website software. I'll take care of this and get a sample out tomorrow. You had already entered your address so I have it. I'll send an email to the address you entered once mailed.

Thanks for letting me know.

Pete123, I have to say you have gone above and beyond with the offer of a free sample and I sincerely wish you the best with this enterprise.  I know that I am happy with my full tub and that purchase came about because of the free sample, as well as your excellent customer service.

I have finished using my sample, here are my thoughts:

  1. Sample Size was great. I spread mine in an empty 4" wide tub from Maggard and used it like a regular soap.

  2. Soap is fairly easy to lather. I didn't see any difference in the outcome between starting with a dry-ish brush or more wet brush. The lather starts as not too bubbly or not too gooey.

  3. Soap can take a decent amount of water - which is always a great thing. But I have managed to over-hydrate on one occasion.

  4. Slickness - while shaving with lather, I felt no lack of slickness. At times, however, I thought residual slickness could be better.

  5. Lather didn't dissipate or became too thin over the course of a relaxed long shave. Maybe not the densest lather, but not too thin either. More than good enough for me.

  6. I tried not using any post-shave product after my third shave when I thought my lather was properly hydrated. After 30-40 minutes, my face started feeling itchy and dry, so used an AS. On my fourth shave, I used witch hazel only after the shave and didn't notice any significant drying. My face isn't that demanding during summer. So I would think, this is an area this soap can be better, at least for me.

  7. On Scent: I like this scent, but I already have Mike's Barbershop which smells very similar to me (almost same tbh). So I won't buy a full tub of it.

  8. Overall, it is a good soap, I won't mind buying a full tub if I happen to be intrigued by a scent. But I would be mindful about my skin while using this base during winter.

  9. I tried to not read most reviews here and ingredient list to avoid any confirmation bias.

Thanks a lot, Pete for providing us the opportunity to try this soap. This way of shipping samples might be something other artisans can take a look at. (Not for free, but using letter envelopes.)

@"iamsms" , thanks for taking the time to draft and post such a thorough review.

I've been please with using the envelopes. They aren't perfect, but really bring the cost down. Also, they are samples to be shipped in the USA for $.50 and anywhere in the world for $1.50.
