Cutting Edge Soap

Hello Everyone,

So, some of you might know me or recognize me from doing a soap sample passaround on one of the other forums as well as here.  So here's how that all started out for me.  I started wet shaving a while back after reading an article about wetshaving and how it could save me money.  Ok, I'm in, so I bought a brush, a razor, some blades and a few soaps.  I bounced around a bit with gear over the next several years trying to find the very best of what was out there.

When it came to soaps I got on a quest to find the best dozen or so soaps on the planet.  I bought everything I could get my hands on be it samples or full tubs.  I traded samples with other forum members.  My shave den would bloat to well over a hundred soaps before I'd narrowed it down to about sixty.  This process repeated over and over several times until I narrowed what I'd use down to three of four brands that I thought were the best available.   All said and done I'd tried over 600 soaps at the time and I had gained a pretty good understanding of what I like in a shaving soap.

I started the soap sample passaround because I thought others might like the same experience that I had gotten.  I made up samples of many of my soaps and reached out to some vendors.  The response has been overwhelmingly positive.  As a result of the experience I've attained as well as overseeing the passaround I've had the opportunity to do new formula for several soap makers.

I'd spoken with several vendors about soap making over the years and I was intrigued.  So I decided to make some of my own soap to see what was involved and to better educate myself on the process.  The goal was to make a soap that I'd want to use myself but I've gotten crazy particular when it comes to what I like in a soap.   So, this was no easy task.  I kept tweaking the formula until it was what I thought was better than anything else I've tried.

After a crazy amount of research and countless test batches I've come up with something I'm proud of and something that I actually want to use myself.   It's my favorite soap.

I've shared some of this soap with friends and the feedback has been incredible.  I decided to sell a bit of soap as a side thing so I'm making and selling some soap in small quantities.

The soap is what I like in a soap.  It lathers easily and holds a lot of water.  I took a spare no expense approach to making it.  I'm pretty big into post shave quality so it's going to excel in that regard.  I've pushed it a bit further that I thought was even possible in a soap.  It's full of butters and expensive additives that are exceptional for your skin.   So much so that my oldest daughter started using it to wash her face with in place of the expensive tubes of moisturizers that she was using before.

After the first pass when rinsing your face you should feel it your skin.  The residual slickness is exceptional as I'll often wet my face in between passes and do a bunch or touch up without any additional lather.   You're able to be rather careless in your shave and it's quite forgiving of poor technique.  In addition to the butters and I've included an ingredient that nobody else is using in a soap called Boerhava Diffusa which has exceptional skin healing properties.

Thank you,
David

Congrats on the launch. Packaging looks excellent. Are you building the scents from the scratch? or sourcing pre-blend scents?

I have heard good reviews regarding the performance of your soaps. Good-luck. Looking forward to your blog as well.

Thank you for the kind words.

Some scents like Calm are all essential oils and mixed from scratch.  Others are a mix that can be a mix of straight scented fragrance oils or blends in addition to other fragrances.  I'm trying not to do anything straight from the bottle in terms of scents as I'd rather not have the same scents that someone else would have.

Thank you for your generous, freely given, and extremely helpful advice and for your widespread service to the shaving community.

I’m in, although my dance card is pretty full until tomorrow morning.  I’ll see you then where the soaps are Cutting Edge.  Happy2  Happy2

I am happy to vouch for David's soap. While I haven't tried his latest versions, he was nice enough to send me a few samples of earlier batches a few months ago. The samples I tried are quite rich-feeling and slick. I recently pulled one out and used it on a cold dry Minnesota morning. My skin felt great after my shave and was soft-feeling all day long despite the dry air.

Cutting Edge makes a really nice soap. It lathers extremely quickly and easily for me. I have two scents, Heliopteris and Calm. Highly recommended

I’ve got three Cutting Edge Soap Scents- Calm, Citrus Wood, and Dark Orange. All of them smell very nice, and I’ve ordered a few more to send to Friends. I’m getting great performance from these Soaps, very very slick and also has nice cushion. I’m happy that a couple of friends turned me onto this Soap brand, it’s a top tier Soap for me.

Agreed that it gets up to speed quickly which was actually one of my favorite parts about it.
