Several months ago, intrigued by one of Anthony Esposito's videos, I ran over to Pasteur and sprang for a jar of XPEC. It ain't cheap, but it's cheaper at Pasteur than at many other places.

Had one of the best shaves ever with the XPEC and my ATT.

Now, several months later, I still use it occasionally, but I don't find it noticeably slicker, more protective, or otherwise better than, say, AOS Sandalwood, Stirling, Soap Commander, etc. Which I think might be due to my technique improving and my switch to straights and Feather ACs for the most part (though XPEC is supposedly a fave of straight shavers because of its slickness). And I seriously doubt I'd buy it again.

So am wondering, what have others experienced? Is it the Holy Grail, neck and neck with Martin de C? Or is it another damned good product but not a life changing item?

I've never tried it due to its price point. I will say that I have been guilty of wanting something that I payed a lot of money for to be better than something that I didn't pay as much for. So much so that I think it has influenced my perception of its performance. I'm not saying that is the case here but I always suspected that to be the case with xpec

I have a few samples of Xpec that I received from straightrazordesigns, and while I do believe it to be the best product that I have used, it is not significantly better than other products that I have paid less than $20 for. My thoughts on it are: Yes it is the best, and No, it is not worth the price tag. I save my samples for special occasions when only the best will do.

Yes, I've been similarly guilty.

I'm glad that you do think it's the best. You've inspired me to break it out again and stop feeling bad about buying it.  Big Grin

For me it was impressive on all levels. I got some in a trade. Probably the best I have ever had . But I wouldn't pay the price tag.
