Shaved like a dream but wanted to ask.

This takes much more water to e
pop than DM and Lusso, correct?

The "new Mallard" has only been released to testers during the development process. These were unscented samples, so if you have a scented product it is from a previous release. Mohammad has made his recent bases: Kairos, Nai, and the not-yet-released Mallard formulas to tolerate a wide range of hydration. You can add a lot of water without the lather breaking down. However, if you favor a lather with a lot of cushion, you can produce a lather that is somewhat drier. Adding water will reduce cushion, but make the  lather that much slicker. I do not find the soaps to be unusually thirsty. The new Ariana and Evans Kaisen base is super thirsty; so be careful not to overload your brush with soap. I load the Grooming Department soaps normally.

The test I use for lather hydration is to take a couple of shaving strokes and then dip my razor in water. I fill my sink, but a glass, coffee mug or bowl would suffice if you live in a water conservation area. If the lather tends to stick to the razor, add more water.  If the lather immediately dissipates, then you need to add more soap; but with the Grooming Department formulas, it takes a lot of water to get to that point.  Within the suitable range of hydration, the lather will immediately release from the razor and float to the surface intact. However, within the suitable range of hydration, you can vary the amount of water to achieve the balance of slickness and cushion you prefer.

Hello, the soap is the new unscented Mallard. Would all the testers agree this needs a bit more water than DM or Lusso to get the same lather?

This has nothing to do with shave quality. I just found i needed more water with the new mallard than the DM or Lusso. Wanted to ask others if they felt the same.

I start with this particular new Mallard formula in the same way as I start with Kairos and the new version of Kairos that Mohammad sent me to test. I soak my brush in hot water during a shower and then shake the brush out as well as squeeze out all excess water. I then start to load my brush from the soap tub. Once loaded, I start to build my lather and add a small amount of water. I would say this new Mallard doesn’t need a ton of water to build a thick rich lather. Very similar to Kairos. Lusso, on the other hand, can take a ton of water. Just my opinion though.

Hi Jaxstar

I'm sorry. I don't have a date yet. I have been so super busy designing products for MIRUS, the skincare brand which I hope to launch in a few months from now.

I should have a date in the next couple of weeks. Thank you for asking.

I'll have to give the 'full shake and squeeze' method a try.
After a good 5/6 shaves, I still seem to be struggling with Mallard 5.16, but I get consistent, excellent lathers with both Lusso and Janus bases.

All in the fun of getting familiar with a new product though and I'm sure I'll get there eventually.

Really? I can't seem to get a bad lather from the test formula 5.16 Mallard. It's simply amazing stuff.
