Hi all.
I recently received this new Grooming Dept product for the pre-shave and after having tried it for almost two weeks it has become my best pre-shave of how many I have tried.  And since I am so happy with him, I have not found a better way to show it than sharing my experience with him.

The soaps of Grooming Dept sure that almost all you will know or you will have heard about them, but with this pre-shave and the serums the circle is closed in his male shaving line. These products can be found on their website although due to the success they are having and the limited stock due to their handicraft production, you have to be aware because when you have stocks they literally fly.
Personally, I like pre-shave a lot. It is true that good soaps in their formulation have many emollient ingredients and make slipping much easier, but when you have a very hard beard, delicate skin, or just want a more satisfying experience, a good pre-shave is your best ally, because prepare the skin and hair thoroughly.

I am lucky that I like almost all of them, the creams, the oils, but this one has surprised me especially, both its texture and its results. But let's go in parts.

INGREDIENTS

Aloe Vera Juice, Shea Butter, Safflower Oil, Stearic Acid, Potassium Hydroxide, Glycerin, Sorbitol, Propanediol, Avocado Oil, Flaxseed Oil, Sunflower Lecithin, Panthenol, Grapeseed Oil, Allantoin, Methyl Gluceth-20, Castor Oil, Jojoba Oil, Tocopherols Carnauba Wax, and Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate. Mandarin Oil and Cardamom oil.

As you can see a whole compendium of emollient and emulsifying oils that make this mixture have a texture similar to that of honey, so you can already get an idea of how well it adheres to the skin and especially to the beard. And these essential oils especially give it a fantastic aroma, very light and easily combined with other soaps.

HOW TO USE

Due to the texture it has, it is necessary to follow a simple process to apply it correctly but it will take less than two minutes and it will give us a fantastic result. To make it a bit more visual, I made the process in my hand, so you could see the consistency it is taking:

1 .- Apply a small amount and wet skin. With the size of a pea we will have enough.

2 .- We distribute it on the beard uniformly, taking advantage of a massage on the skin and focusing on the "most problematic" areas. To think that in addition to softening the beard, will create a super sliding film above the skin that will facilitate much later the passage of the blade on the surface. Here you can see how that texture similar to honey, is distributed throughout the surface of the skin with a very sticky appearance that leaves impregnated all the hairs.

3 .- A few drops of water are added (to give you an idea I just wet my fingers) and the product is finished, and now there is a more oily film. More dense, more slippery, perfect to prepare the skin.

Now we just have to leave it for a while and when the soap is applied it will also act as a "booster" that is, it will amplify the soap's ability to create a good lather. This is an advantage over oils because it just hits these is just the opposite, it costs them to lather more.

SENSATIONS

As I said at the beginning, I like to use a pre-shave in my shaves. I know that maybe I would not need it, because the soaps that I use are loaded with ingredients that make shaving a lot easier, but since I use them, my shaves are much more pleasant, and this pre-shave is the best, but the better, I've tried.

Starting with its texture, which is incredible and helps even more to perform its function, since being so sticky, it makes the product adhere perfectly to the beard at first, then when applying the water, a sliding film is created that makes passing the blade over is a real pleasure.

Regarding the aroma, this particular aroma is great, a slight tangerine aroma and with the spicy point of cardamom very pleasant that lasts just enough to froth, since after that time, being such a light aroma disappears or is hidden with the of the soap.

And in the first pass with the blades its effect is noticeable, the softer beard, the smoother skin, the razor slides much more easily but it is in the second one in which the result is more patent and definitive since it leaves a layer very lubricated that makes retouching with the razor is a children's game and an authentic pleasure for how well the razor slides.

PRICE

It has a price of $ 16, come 4.0 oz of product (about 114 grams) and the truth is that I do not know how much the amount I use but it is small, so the price for shaving is ridiculous. In such a way that the price of the product is in line with that of other pre-shaves, but if we compare it with the performance it performs, it is an affordable product.

VERDICT

For me it has become a basic product and I hope to have it always at hand. It is a product that works very well, but where it behaves best is with the beard of two days. There is a top because the second day is when the beard has that point of length and hardness that makes this pre.

The products with cream texture, have the ability to moisturize the skin and soften the beard, but their handicap is usually that they do not increase the ability to slide. The fact that this product is used in combination with water gives it an advantage in this respect. If we compare them with shaving oils, the rule is reversed. These products greatly facilitate the slippage of the blade, although due to the very fine oily layer left on the skin they do not act as deeply on the beard as this product, so the result is not so satisfactory.

In short, this pre-shave combines the best of oils and creams, has an incredible texture that greatly facilitates the process, a great aroma and with what little is needed and the amount of its duration is enormous. Personally I am very satisfied with this product and I think it is a great purchase, so to all of you who are looking for a good pre-shave I recommend you try it because I'm sure it will surprise you.

A strong hug from Spain.

Great review. I use my GD lavender preshave on every shave and it's a phenomenal product. I also ordered the Mandarin/cardamom preshave on the recent drop a few days ago.
They are big tubs and a little goes a long way. I'm guessing I'll eventually finish one tub in about a year. No need to stock up, they're a regularly stocked item.

Not much for scented shave items but must confess the Mandarin & Cardamom is quite pleasant

I purchased the Cedarwood and Lime pre-shave and tried it tonight with GD's Mallard Lavender soap. WOW! This stuff is well worth it, and will undoubtedly be ordering from him again. This pre-shave is the real deal, and the 4oz. jar should last for a very long time! I'm anxious to see the results after continuous use.
