Hello everyone,
I'm Adrian. 41. Born and living in Romania, Eastern Europe. Shaving infidel (multi-blade and canned shaving gel user) until 3.5 years ago. Just kidding, I still enjoy a cartrige shave once in a while. I have been silently enjoying the forum for a while now. I figured time has come to introduce myself and start posting.
What got me into wet shaving? I guess I was just looking for a hobby and got lucky to stumble upon traditional shaving. Why the need for a hobby? Don't know, I wasn't able to find the root cause cause I'm no shrink. Probably being a father for two kids, 5 and 2, played a role (parentship is a huge investment of time and energy, as some of you are already aware). Don't get me wrong, I'm not whining here. My wife supports the shaving effort by showing genuine benign amazement at the huge pile of shaving stuff that has been accumulating and conquering vast house territory. She even cleared most of her own bathroom cabinet space to make room for my infamous shaving gear. She voluntered to do so. That is something. Last but not least, she compliments me for a close shave. That's also nice.
Within the shaving ritual I mostly enjoy the lathering part which I find to be just an excellent way to unwind and let the mind wander around. It's like passing out for a brief moment only to come back fresh and recharged. So soaps play the biggest role in my shaving inventory.
I have two major shaving pleasures/drives:
- A mass-market fetish. This refers to shaving creams/soaps and aftershaves that are widely available to the average man in different parts of the world. I tend to thoroughly enjoy this as I feel like it provides a portal to different countries, cultures etc. It's an olfactory travel to places. It helps me imagine the scent of a busy morning in an urban environment where freshly shaved men rush to their jobs. I currently focus on Europe, mainly on the Central and Eastern region thereof. You'll be seing a lot of shaving products from this area in my future posts.
- Artisan soap. I also enjoy a good tallow base cooked by a talented soap wizard under a clear sky with a full moon. Unicorn milk, baby panda tears and all that stuff.
That concludes my fairly long introduction.
I wish you gents nice shaves!
Best regards.
Adrian
