After being on various shaving boards for a bit I was turned on to the Gillette New Short Comb.  The reason for its appeal to me is that it clamps the blade very securely and has next to no blade chatter.  I read somewhere that someone had issues with shaving with it until they saw that the cap of their New SC was well worn.  This made them try shaving with it by riding the cap.  They had a much better experience after that.

The common bar handle of the New is quite light.  So much so that the razor is head heavy.  This would suggest to me that it was designed to be properly used by chocking up and letting it do its thing.  I put a heavier brass handle on it and the riding the cap balance seemed to have vanished.  Maybe I should do some AB testing to see what I like more.  Maybe using a heavier handle AND chocking way up is even better.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?
