Yes! I once brought a female from grad school in Indiana to the UP, and as we passed a billboard advertising pasties, I asked if she wanted one. I narrowly escaped getting slapped!

The only time I've ever really hate the first shave is with Feather blades (with one razor as the exception). Some people "cork" them first because of that. Life's too short for that nonsense. I switched to PolSilver blades and never looked back. Perfect from the first to the last.

Try stropping Feather blades on some denim. Works for me.

To add to what MaineYooper was saying - I had heard it as Welsh Miners wives would give their husbands Pasty's so they could have a full lunch (Meat Potatoes Vegetables and bread) in something that was easy to carry. I wouldn't be surprised if that was brought over the pond.

That meshes with what I was told. Iron miners would take a hot pasty in a pail down in the mine with them and have a hot meal.
