As soon as I read, "Made in Holland," and read the ingredients, I knew I was going to be getting a "Glycerin(e)" lather. This is to me, like the total opposite of a Wholly Kaw lather. A glycerin lather in my world is usually a pretty runny affair - the question was, would it be slick though? That's always the saving grace for a puck like this - viscosity.

Well I was rather (pleasantly) shocked when I did a practice run to see that it wasn't nearly as "runny" as i thought it would be. As a matter a fact, it was rather "cake(ish)." Nice! I'd already shaven so a trial shave was out, but I put some of the lather on my face... pretty darn slick! Woot!

For me, a good lather will stay on the face and not dry out for 5 minutes. I left it on the face to see where it would land. By four minutes, it had dried. I don't think that was the creams fault though. I haven't quite got the lather on it down yet. I could have added considerably more water had I lathered more. I really didn't work all that hard to get what I had. That was a little surprising too. I'd imagine that had I worked it hard, I'd be even more impressed. Either way, when I added a little water to my face and the dried cream, I got great slide again.

I can't speak to the scent dying after lathering. I was a little scented out - I'll pay attention next time.

Overall, so far, I'm ok with the stuff. I'm pretty excited to try it even. Perhaps Sunday.

Congrats on the acquisition and good luck with the soap.

I think Fine sells a superb product and have two pucks. It's not exactly the same as Tabac, but IMO it works as well if not better and minus the cloying Grandma scent. FWIW, the Speick tallow based shave stick is better than Tabac IMO. YMMV.

UPDATE:

Well, I’ve shaved with the American Blend a couple of times now.  I like it. The soap is hard, so you need to take a little more time.  You’ll be rewarded.  It’ll never throw down the thickness of a say... a Wholly Kaw or a Haslinger, but that’s ok.  It’s lighter yes, but it still gives me great and close shaves!  A perfect  summer soap really.

Now I always layer up where I can so the aftershave adds to an awesome overall effect!  It’s a little too dry though.  Me being me.  I add a little unscented balm afterward and i’m good to go! I just can’t do an splash on its own - skin is too dry to start with.

Now I haven’t spoken to scent yet. The soap and aftershave smell identical to me... identically delicious!  Everyone who smells it reacts with - barbershop!  That’s not to be confused with old man. Though most barbershops are populated by old men anymore, that connection isn’t made.

Is this my best soap/aftershave combo I’ve ever had? Nope.  Not by a long shot, but i’m Looking forward to using it to its death.  I don’t know if I’ll replace it or not either. Not because it’s not a pleasure, but rather, because I hear their other scents rock too!  I’m glad I got it.

I think fine is a good soap. The tabac scent was a turn off. Good performance as well but not heads and shoulders ahead of the fine formulation.

For me, Fine is one the best if not the best soap all around. Firstly I'm in love with the American Blend scent. And it lasts on me for quite a while. I can feel it trough out the day.
I read some comments hear and I can't believe we have the same soap. Mine lathers with so much ease, in no time really and gives a rich and slick lather. The thickness of it is quite all right and even though I like a thick lather it's not really important if it's slick and protective, after all the performance is what counts, right?!
I certainly see the similarities with Tabac, aside the scent.
My only negative is the price, it is a bit on the upper end for the quantity but since its a hard soap I imagine it last longer/its rate of spending is not as the one of a soft soap.
That and the packaging. My god the paper box was the the main reason I don't own other scents. I saw on their site they launched soaps in tubs now.

Yeah, $4 more for the same amount soap just because it's in a plastic tub. Pass...

I like Fine's scents and aftershaves, but the price increases are a turn off. Especially when you consider the ingredient list. Alcohol, water, fragrance and menthol. That's it.

Regarding the soaps, they are ok. I wasn't blown away by the performance, but there's definitely worse out there. To me it is similar to Tabac, maybe a tiny notch below it.

IMO. Their soaps need work.

Best part of Fine are their AS's...as long as they remain under 20 clams...

Yeah i'm enjoying the last of my Fine Aftershaves because of the price increase. As you mentioned, due to the lack of really quality ingredients, I didn't see the necessity for the 5 dollar price increase so I will not be buying anymore.

I'm glad folks are having a good experience with the soaps, I just do not love them.

Expound on that, please.
