I sent it off in the mail, hoping this gets resolved properly. Thanks folks for the replies and comments. I will update later.

Sometimes I think we are a bit too benevolent towards manufacturers etc in this hobby of ours because that knot regardless if it is the handle that is the problem, the way the knot is set or the symmetry of the bulb , to my mind isn't fit to be sold ; it's as simple as that.
I appreciate the vendor is happy to exchange it or offer a refund but it certainly does take something away from the excitement of buying a new product like this and considering for me part of my reason for being in this hobby is marvelling at the products I buy as well as enjoying the performance. Yeah this particular brush is relatively inexpensive but considering the high water mark set by many in this business it's disappointing if this is what's being allowed to pass quality control.

Agreed!

I also agree with 1morepasswill. I get that things like this happen on occasion, but it's how you handle it with the customer that makes all the difference. Don't make an excuse, just apologize for the quality and give them their options and take care of them IMMEDIATELY.

Is it a high end brush? No it's not, but there are a lot of reputable people reviewing it and giving it great reviews bringing you a lot of business for a budget brush.

I don't even know if Maggard sells this brush, but i have only ordered from them 2 times now, and both times happened to be on a weekend. Both times, I got an email from them stating they received my order and they would be shipping it out on Monday, and thanked me for my order. The email appeared to be an actual email, not a auto generated email, and if it was, I was none the wiser, that's how good it was, and how good it made me feel, even for the small orders that I made.

The wet shave community is appealing to many of us because it brings us to a time in recent history when men could have a conversation, mean what they say, and I could expect that as a gentleman you will have the integrity to back your words up with action.  (this is a very rare trait these days)

I have been following the wet shave community for a couple of years off and on now (I was interested long before I ever took the plunge).  I hope that what we will not see is companies diving into the business side of this hobby focused solely on the profit.  I felt it was telling that Mr. Fine stated he could not QA all the products before they were released to the public, I give him credit for offering to replace the defective item but my business sense asks why release it if you can't ensure that the quality is fit to have your name on the it?  I understand that many vendors are wet shavers and have dedicated and RISKED a great deal to offer products to this community, but understand who your customers are.  I would gladly pay 5 dollars more for the Fine Angel Hair Brush (Its well worth the investment) if that means I don't have to repair it myself, or worry about it breaking, or if the knot is centered.  I also raised an eyebrow to the Satin Tip brush that recently went up 10 bucks and then back down inside a week? (market forces cannot be that great).  its those things that make me very cautious when I buy shave goods.

Maybe I'm tired or just venting but this community grows everyday...new vendors pop up and that gives me choices (that means competition to the vendor).  We wet shave because we care about the quality of our shave....not the quantity.  Plus these forums allow us to share on an unprecedented level....if it sucks we will know in less than 5 minutes.  Just some friendly business sense for all the future purveyors of great shaving gear....

Finally a shout out to Chris (Traditional Shave Evangelist or TSE as I call him).  Keep doing what you do, you 're HONEST and informative and we appreciate it.

that's unfortunate to see. I love the look of the handle, but not enough to purchase one if the knots aren't going to bet set properly and inspected before shipment.

USPS shows return delivered today. Hopefully the replacement gets sent out soon so I can close this up! I went ahead, in the mean time, and ordered a real Plisson... Should have done that in the first place.... I guess buy once cry once is sometimes the better thing to do. Lol

I ordered mine directly from Fine and it was perfect. I love my Angel Hair.

That's crazy. I've had mine for awhile now, used daily with no issues. My kids even got ahold of it and it was no worse for wear. Maybe I got lucky???
