I love my Feather(s). I have the AS-D1 and AS-D2 and am trying to figure out which to keep. They are pretty similar and it seems dumb to keep both, though I like them both a lot.

I can’t get a long-lasting BBS shave, but I can get an easy one-pass DFS shave. There are other razors that get a close BBS shave, but those can be tough on the skin. I like to alternate the Feather razor into my schedule to give my skin a break. Works well that way. I can’t understand the broad dismissal of this razor. If you want One Razor to Rule Them All, this might not be it. But then most of us have multiple razors, so I don’t see why this can’t be in one’s Arsenal.

I would also add that it is a joy to handle. The quality and feel and manoeuvrability in the hand is amazing. Much better than my Rockwell 6c, which feels kind of clumsy, or my RazoRock Mamba .70, which is kind of nondescript.

The AS-D2 was too mild for my beard.

I love my ASD2. Feather blades are great but I typically use Gillette Blues. In general I don't chase a BBS so DFS is where I land.

I completely agree with those that like this razor for it’s build quality.

Absolutely superb.

I also think it was among the earliest high-end razors available, when our current wet shaving renaissance began.

I don’t use it often these days, but when I do, it’s with no hurry. This is a tool I can up-angle for more aggression...or down-angle for buffing.

As long as the touch gets lighter and lighter as I go...buffing is fun and useful. Adding a bit of a pre-shave gel before increases smoothness, and reduces the risk of irritation.

Personally, I think buffing gets a bad rap.

The ASD2, in my case, is a great buffer...

I have fond memories of the AS-D1, and have a D2 on the way. Looking forward to another super mild razor.
