I thought stearic acid was tallow.

It can come from animal or vegetable sources, mine is veggie.

As are most. It's rare for stearic acid to be isolated from tallow these days.

I probably could do some more exhaustive testing on this, but I'm pretty sure that I'm a big fan of lanolin. At first I thought tallow itself was what lead me to enjoy tallow soaps so much, but then I found the thing I miss the most from vegan soaps is the post shave. Once I tried a couple tallow soaps without lanolin (namely Cella, Arko, and Razorock XXX, which are all great) I became quite convinced that lanolin is my jam.

In no particular order:
Mike's
B&M
Stirling (my first and most abundant soap)
Cold River
Mickey Lee (I may never try anything besides that Drunken Goat... Just give me 5 tubs of THAT)

Shamefully, I have yet to try what is probably the OG lanolin soap: da fat. I should probably get on that, huh?

I go back and forth between the tallow and vegan soaps, but when in the tallow mood I usually go to ( Surprise, surprise!)  B&M, Reef point and Cold River soaps.  The Razorock soaps are good, but there are so many vendors out there and I have but one face to shave so I keep it in the mid to higher range.  I understand Joe is dabbling with some new soaps so I will turn my attention there shortly.  The problem is usually getting your hands on select stuff from His shop.  Neither good nor bad, it just is.

My absolute favourite tallow-based soap is D.R. Harris, closely followed by Valobra.
