has anyone ever used one before? someone recommended this product to me a while ago. I haven't tried it yet and was wondering if anyone had any experience with it.

my facial hair lays flat and is very prone to ingrowns. I'm thinking an exfoliation here and there can't hurt!

I thought it was the curlies that cause ingrowns such as in African skin types and some other folks that I have known. Anyway, rather than a sponge I would recommend St. Ives Apricot Scrub. No doubt safe, and if you don't like it, I'll bet your wife will take it off your hands - an old girl friend turned me on to it ("to" it, not "with" it).

I have not used that andrewjs18 but it looks interesting.

I don't have sensitive skin nor issues with ingrowns etc. but I do have several shave brushes with more backbone etc. that I leverage for exfoliation when in the mood.

my hair starts to curl when it gets long enough. I have very annoying problems with the facial hair on my neck. if my technique isn't on point, I'll get irritation and ingrowns. if I go too long between shaves, my neck hair will start to curl and try to grow back into the skin. in fact, I'm dealing with this right now in a spot or two on my neck.

I think I'll pick 1 up next week.

I have used a few exfoliating products, but I found that they make me more prone to cuts.

My theory is that the exfoliants cause just enough irritation to make my skin a bit inflamed and thus more delicate, then the razor blade comes in and trashes things.

I do find that my brush (and the razor itself, of course) are plenty exfoliating.

PSA About Exfoliants
"Microbeads" and other non biodegradable exfoliant additives can cause trouble in your pipes, and are a growing problem in the water supplies/sewers/treatment facilities of many areas. If you want an exfoliating scrub of some kind, look for ones that use salt, sugar, jojoba beads or other easily broken down substances.

I bought that facial sponge I linked to in my OP. I used it today in the shower after I applied some soap to my face just below my beard where the hair isn't as thick. so far, so good, but I don't know if it did much yet. I know most gents like using this a day after their shave to help free any ingrowns.

andrewjs18 My wife received one of these as a gift for the holidays from a friend: http://www.konjacspongecompany.com/shop.html

Her friend is an aesthetician here in town and recommends these highly. My wife has been using the bamboo/carbon one for a while now and really likes it. I noticed that they also have a gents version which they claim is great for building lather as an alternative to badger brushes.

Thought it may be interesting to check out!

That certainly looks interesting, Kevin, but I don't think I'll be giving up my badger brushes just yet. Winking
