Omnia transeunt et id etiam transeat
Frank,
What is the guaranteed shelf life (without deterioration of properties) of soap, aftershave, serum?
What are the storage conditions?
Is there a launch new date for the site?

Thanks
Michael

Hi Michael

Ok so let’s start with the Shave soap. I use a organic full spectrum preservative in my soaps so going by the specs it’s 2 yrs. With that said it could be longer as I’ve had soaps that are more than 2 yrs old that are still good both scent wise and performance wise and they didn’t use a preservative. I have had others that didn’t do so well In lest than a year. My soaps have not been around long enough to know how long they will last but we have stability testing equipment at the labs I work at and I think I’ll put my soap through a test for shelf life and I highly doubt anyone does except maybe big manufacturers of soaps is my guess. Certainly soap made in someone’s kitchen would probably not be doing tests like that as the cost for such a test from a lab would be price prohibited as it could cost a couple thousands for such a test. A simple answer would be my soaps haven’t been out long enough to know exactly as I just launched about 5 months ago.

As far as the oil serums they could last years based on the self life of the oils that are in them. I use glass bottles which is a good environment for them and yes dark glass would be even better but don’t like the look for a retail product so the only thing that could accelerate the deterioration would be direct exposure to UV rays or very high temperatures. Vitamin E is added to all my serums for a little extra insurance and it’s also a good benefiting ingredient for the skin.  The Skin Food is alcohol based so that can also be years. I have some old aftershaves that still work fine and although some have lost a bit of scent strength other have not.

Again none of my products have been out long enough to have gone through real life testing so that we will have to wait and see but I will go by the specs of the preservatives claim in the soaps for now.

Hope that’s answered your questions.

Thanks again for the interesting post.

Frank

is the v2 of the soap out now? (want to wait til v2 is released to get my first ETHOS). Also, will the DFS collab soap be a v1 or v2 soap base?

Other than the original Dragonsbeard soap which was done with Oleo and the Lime which was also a collaboration they are all the same base

I know from the reviews is an awesome base, but I saw a post from dragon, saying his new base will be coming very soon, so was wondering on that.

Great video.
I prefer face lather, too; but I like to start wet rather than dry brush method. So I can get better hydration and improve post shave.
For his soap, I am slightly dipping a wet brush into the bowl and only quarter turn to load it. Like a shave cream.
