Personally I think a thread such as this comparing only 3 manufacturers in a market of so many will lead to fans of each brand to post their biased opinion. Having Asthma limits many of the products I can use. I do know I must avoid software containing Pine, Cedarwood or Oud. This eliminate a huge amount of soaps as many contain these in their base notes. Sebum provided a few soaps that I could use but the cost is prohibitive and is not the easiest to lather, Grooming Dept has made some very nice soaps, constantly changing, but the scents are very complex and likely to trigger an Asthma attack. ETHOS has provided an excellent soap base with several simple scents that gives an excellent lather , slickness and post shave feel. His skin food leaves my skin feeling nourished without being oily.
The comment that the ETHOS skin food is very astringent is just plain wrong, based on the ingredients, it is just a subjective experience of one individual.
As anyone can tell I am a fan of ETHOS but I can not use the Dragonsbeard version as it triggers my Asthma, there are many great Artisan soaps out there, which is truly a blessing as compared to a decade ago when there were few choices to wet shavers. Everyone will have there favorite, but for me, when it comes to honest ingredients and top notch performance nothing surpasses ETHOS and I have used and PIF’d almost every brand out there. But as I stated in the beginning this is my biased opinion.
