yep, my wife said the same thing when I complained of this (she supports and pretends to care about my wet shaving addiction and has for the last few years). That aside

I shouldn't have too, nor will I get a damn spoon and scoop soap into another container so I can use the brush I want. Obviously, I'm not in the minority here or all tubs of soap would be the same size. I will use smaller brushes and finish the small tins I have (going to take a while couple years at least) but, I decided a year and a half ago no more small or medium brush knots for me. There are plenty of soap makers that make soap in tins that accommodate huge knots. Why should I have to use an old brush that's small in stature and have to labor to use a soap? I've bowl lathered and scuttle lathered and for me, tin to face is what I enjoy. The size of the soap tin shouldn't impare my shave. I shouldn't have to bowl lather a soap or scoop it out with a spoon to shave with it. Not today, with all the makers out there ,making soaps in large tins that provide an excellent shave without a spoon and a bowl. Further, I've started to give away half empty smaller tins of soap to friends....the hassle isn't worth it when I have so many large tinned great soaps in the den

I saw one person using a large brush in smaller container by twisting the brush to load instead of swirling around the container. He seemed to get a good load on the brush.

I can't say that I have personally thought about this subject much. Except when I am working with a sample. Then the damn spoon comes out....

Sure thing Tins I love Dr. Jons, Through the Fire Fine Craft, Chiesled Face, and Soap Commander go wide or go deep in the case of SC. Again, why should I have to "twist the brush" to use a product?

I agree with OP. I like the tubs that is 10cm in diameter. B&M, Reef Point, OSP and others.

Not a deal killer here either but I do much prefer wider and shallow.

Love Soap Commander product but if you've ever seen the bottom of their standard tubs, even that is a hassle loading while you clack your brush around the sides; I'd pay the same amount for less soap and the seasonal format in fact. WSP soaps are top notch, but their "Skoal Cans" are nearly impossible to use without making a huge mess as well.

4"/10cm diameter and shallow is the sweetspot for me personally.

I agree with the OP this is a massive bug bear for me. I love a good size tin/tub with good lather space.

I agree. While it is slightly annoying, not a deal breaker for me. B&M Latha for example...

PERFECT example of a GREAT soap that annoys me because of container size. It's 11 bucks make it 12.50 if need be for a bigger container..... CF is 13 bucks for a soap I feel is right on par, I love them both for me, I'd rather spend 13 for a large tin than deal with the mess.... We are talking about 50 shaves or more with a tin of soap..... Let me use the brush I want without a mess for two bucks more.

On most soaps I'd agree with you on this, but Latha is B&M's price conscious/budget range so it makes sense in this case that smaller containers are used for price reasons. If the price did jump from $11 to $12.50 that's an increase of more than 10%.

For premium soaps though, 4" containers are what I'd expect as standard for ease of lathering.

I don't like tiny containers, either, but it doesn't keep me from buying a soap I like. Like bakerbarber said, a spoon and bowl solve the "problem".

I realize this is a solution and it's a valid point. My point is, With all the great offerings out there and performance being equal in many regards, minus scent (which is personal and subjective) I don't have to, nor should I have to, in my opinion, get a bowl and a spoon to use a soap and shave. Nor should I have to clean up the mess that inevitably follows when ramming a huge knot in a small container. For me, I just won't do it anymore when there are a plethora of offerings out there in large tins.

Here is something I'm finding more and more important to me in whether I buy a soap or not.  ... stop sending me your soap in SMALL tubs.

They sell refills but NOT available in the US. The tins dent easily. But its no big deal. I just move it into any empty container. Even those tubberware things work fine.

My complaint is those stupid crocks. SELL THE REFILLS!!!      I don't want your crock after crock after crock. What am I going to do with them all? Create clutter?

NO REFILL?  NO SALE.

If you don't want to sell refills, then your soap better be the nectar of the gods, some ambrosia made from Unicorn hair  or you lose a sale.
