My name came up on the Wolf Whiskers list and I am due for an order link tomorrow. This means I have to decide on shape and color plus choice of knot over the weekend.

As for the latter, knot choice, right now I am thinking Elite Razor Manchurian or HMW, or Romera Manchurian. Other alternatives include WSP HMW knot (expensive), Envy White (too stiff/scritchy?), Evolution HMW Silvertip (only goes up to 24mm).

I have tried none of the mentioned, so, as the thread subject says, any opinions on Elite Razor knots or Romera (or any of the others) are more than welcome. As are yet other suggestions.

Thanks, gentlemen!

Good day,

The Elite razor knots are pretty much in the range of TGN knots (the gold nib, you can look them up) similar, but a bit less backbone than the Envy knots.

I wouldn't be surprise if many of them (not all) probably come from the same source.

Personally, I would go with a Romera knot, which is more in the range of the SV brush or Epsilon two-band silvertip. IMO you would get more enjoyment and more longevity out of those.

I've got two of the Elite Manchurians arriving today. I'll let you know how I like them. I ordered a Romera as well, but I've never tried it, and it might be a minute.

Congrats!

I really like the Envy White knots and would not discount them. They have extremely soft tips with decent but reasonable backbone. No scritch at all from my experience [I have three from Peter and one from Nathan].

Good luck- the funnest part is selecting all the components!

PS I used a WW Envy White in today's SOTD; Tuxedo handle which is an absolute pleasure to use!

Thanks for weighing in, fellas!

jmzeitouni I might just pick up a Romera regardless Wink

SCShaver Please keep me posted on your experience (or if you start a review thread etc). Only issue is that I have to decide by Monday, I believe...

kwsher What other knots would you say are comparable, if any? The TSN M6 manchurian from 2014 is probably the knot I have with the most backbone, closely followed by a custom Shavemac that lies somewhere between silvertip and D01 2-bands. But you're saying the Envy White is more flexible?

Hi, I had a Romera Manchurian brush & was disappointed with it, it's more like a silver tip than a Manchurians. I have the Envy white & it's by far more superior. I highly recommend the Envy White its great from start & once broken in it's heaven.

If you were to share the characteristics you like in a knot then it would be a lot easier to get some better advice about what might be the best fit for you.

For example, you stated that the Envy White might be too much scritch but they also make an Envy Luxury knot that's no scritch and an excellent choice for face lathering. Personally I like it better than their Envy White offering.

I have read very good reviews about the Elite knots so they are high on my list of knots to try in a Wolf Whiskers brush.

My current Wolf Whiskers contain
Shavemac 2 band Silvertip 24/52
Envy Luxury 26/54
Envy White 24/56

I have some TGN knots in some other brushes including
TGN High Mountain White
TGN Finest Fan
TGN Premium Silvertip

Also, for the price of the WSP HMW knot you're better off paying slightly more and getting a Shavemac 2 band instead.

I just received a WW with EnvyWhite fan knot and it's a winner. Good luck with your choice!

Thanks again! Opinions are split on Envy White as well as on Romera. MDV Wink

As for my preferences: I have a custom knot called Unique from Shavemac, density wise I am told it is somewhere between the regular silvertip 2-band and the D01. Perfect backbone on this for me, and gel or sponge like once wet, but I would love for it to be softer also in dry condition (despite me not engaging in dry shaving...). I love the feel of Brad Sears Manchurian 3-band but find it lacking somewhat in backbone. I have an Epsilon Krion silvertip set at 54-55mm and love the feel of it but backbone wise it should have been set a few mms lower. Of the more budget friendly ones, I have had a recent TGN Finest and a WD High Mountain but prefer softer tips, or a more luxury feeling in a sense. New Forest's High Mountain denominated 2-band is possibly a contender to the throne but it's one of the first brushes I bought and a lot smaller (20mm) than what I prefer today.

So how would the Envy White (and Envy Luxury) compare or relate to the above?

Let me say this. I know its only a couple of test lathers and one shave, but I'm HIGHLY impressed with Bob's 2-band Manchurian white knots from Elite Razors. I got two of them and they are very dense, and SUPER soft but with solid backbone. I have mine set at 51mm but I bet you could take these down to 48 or 46 easily with no scritch whatsoever. These knots seriously, rival my Shavemac 2-bands and my Thater 2-band. At the moment I'm in absolute shock over this. I cannot believe how soft and solid these knots from Elite are. I have more testing to do no doubt about it, but I'm racking my brain trying to come up with a better deal. I think anyone should try one of these knots if they haven't already, especially if they are fans of Thater 2-band or Shavemac 2-band style hair.

My advice to you, if you want to pay for it, Shavemac 2-band, you can't go wrong at all, but it will cost you. If you want to sample something that is almost every bit as luxurious for half the price, try the Elite Razors Manchurian White. I have no experience with the Envy White, although I heard the backbone might be more than I can handle. If I were to get an Envy white based on what I've read, I would have a 26mm (the size I typically prefer) knot set at 54 or 55mm for loft. The Elite Razor Manchurian white knot, I set just like I would a Shavemac 2-band and it came out glorious.

EDIT: I will admit that yesterday, I purchased a Manchurian 2-band Fan knot from Romera, but this was before I received the Elite Razor custom brushes. I've never tried a Romera so we will see.
