Durham Razor AC blade mod

I love the looks of some of the Durham razors but the proprietary blades for them are junk and it's a waste of time and energy to make one halfway shave worthy. As shown in my SOTD this morning I used my Durham razor with a Feather Pro blade. I plan to do some more testing to find something even more user friendly but for now this is what I have. Simple mod that takes 5 minutes. Unsure if this will work on all of them simply for snugness of top cap. May have to come up with a potential shim to help.

Please use caution if doing this. Blades are obviously sharp and since I'm using a Dremel, I used eye protection.

Taking the top cap off your Durham shows the 2 locking posts shown here.


Take you AC blade and center in the razor as shown here. Use a pencil, Sharpie, etc. And mark where the posts are on the blade.


I used my Dremel with the style blade shown here and cut a notch at the 2 marked spots.



Since it's a DE style razor, and to keep the top cap even, I placed the blade on top another AC blade, marked the gaps, and repeated the Dremel cuts.


I used the proprietary blade to judge blade exposure and placed my 2 AC blades the same. Using a light smear of shave cream can help hold the AC blades in place.



You will probably have to tweak the blade after top cap is on. Looking at the top you will see where you can use a paperclip or thin tweezers or whatever to adjust at each corner or at the posts. Once you get it evened up and how you want, you're good to go!
