Dress Boots - who knew?

While more a fan of handmade Italian "dress" loafers that literally collapse in the absence of a foot, can understand the predilection for these dress boots. As referenced in Recondita Armonia, beauty abounds in all things, sometimes in complete contrast.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - I quite like the Allen Edmonds boots and shoes that I have - I considered them to be good value for the quality and they're made in the USA.  I spent 30 years as an oil and gas corporate lawyer and had to suit up everyday and I liked wearing good footwear. I definitely had lighter footwear for warmer seasons but Up here its cold a lot so the boots work well. If someone thinks the value equation makes sense on those viberg boots then that's their call.

If I were going to blow $800 on a pair of boots then it would be on handmade cowboy boots. Then again, modern cowboy boots, just like modern cowboy hats, have little in common with what real cowboys wore in the 19th century. Personally, when not working I wear comfortable & practical footwear as after all...

Thats funny BPman , I don't stare at a person's shoes but I do note whether their shoes are polished and in good repair.  It tells you something about attention to detail - the number of times I've met people in expensive suits that had worn and unpolished and salt stained shoes and even frayed, walked on pant hems.  They don't have to be expensive to be kept clean, polished and in good repair.  I think there are two reasons for my views on footwear.  First my mother always insisted we have good sensible, well maintained shoes and clean underwear.  If we were ever in an accident and taken to hospital she didn't want anyone thinking we were raised by wolves.  Second, I was in the military, your clothing, including footwear were to be clean pressed/polished and in good repair.  

I also like a good pair of cowboy/western boots - I don't ride so a low heel is fine for me and a slightly wider rounded toe box is more comfortable.  Its a dream to get a pair of custom made boots but I don't think I'll ever do that for myself - I do want to get some for my son though, he has size 15 feet so he's a little hard to fit off the rack.

Just as info, wearing dirty underwear would lead nobody to think you raised by wolves. Was raised on a working ranch and traveled the world. Have neither encountered nor heard tales of wolves wearing underwear, dirty or clean. With all due respect to your beloved mother of course.

Love these. I am a big of my AE Dalton's as well, very comfy and looks great dressed-up with chinos or down with jeans.

Along the same vein, my favorite is Tricker's Stow. I don't have a photo of mine right now but this is how it looks like. It's less sleak than the Dalton, and has a fuller last.

Those AE's are nice looking boots. But seeing them relegated to the basement damn near brought a tear to my eye.
I know you said you don't wear them much anymore but the basement??

I selected the Nunn Bush Odells for the rubber sole and also the sole pattern. As you know leather soles are slippery in the northern climes.

The northern climes also have the ubiquitous sand/gravel mix spread on the roads, parking lots and driveways for traction.
My dress shoes, my work boots and my around the house sneakers all collect this gravel and bring it into the house where it scratches and abraids the wooden floors.
The Odells do not have any crevices to capture the gravel yet are not slippery.

I really like the looks and feel of this boot. So much so I purchased a second pair in a lighter color.
