I know you have issues with certain scents with your Asthma it’s a hit or miss with you so as soon as I have all the products ready for release I’ll send samples of the scents to you to see which ones work well for you. Also I’lm going to make at least 8 to 10 unscented Skin Food Splashes for sure and if I have time maybe an unscented soap as well but I don't want to rush the shave soap as I have some ideas on an unscented soap that I’d like to incorporate into the formula, but the skin food splash for sure.

Good to hear. i have been looking for a good unscented splash.

Ohyeahyesmaam if you want to pm me your contact information I’ll put you on the list for one and save a unscented one for you.

Thank you!

Well, gents, I've had the chance to have two more shaves with this soap and using the skin food aftershave. The first was on Friday evening. No shower, just splashed on some warm water for 10-15 seconds, lathered up the soap and gave it a go. The razor was my Feather SS shavette with the same Proline blade. The second was yesterday morning before church, this time after a shower.

On both occasions the soap lathered up really quickly; at the beginning, it gets very foamy/bubbly (probably because of the high amount of stearic acid), but working it for a short period of time tightens it up. At that point, it looks like a pretty good lather, but don't use it then. I add water little by little (several drops at a time) and work the lather. I keep doing that until I get a lather that has a great sheen to it and shorter peaks, then I apply it to the face. On Sunday morning I added a bit more than I did on Friday, just to see what would happen. The lather did not break down, it just got a little more sheen. It was perfect for my shavette shave.

As with the first shave, on both subsequent shaves I was surprised by how little I felt the blade with this soap in comparison with other soaps. It was very slick, but because of the muted blade feel, I think it is also has quite a bit of cushion. I was mindful of just squeegee-ing off the lather with a very light touch despite the muted blade feel, and I was rewarded with a fantastic shave both times.

On Friday, there was a bit of drying of the lather around the mustache and chin area before I got to them (I always shave that area last); it revived with a tiny bit of water on my index finger. On Sunday, when I had added a bit more water during the bowl lathering stage, it did not dry out at all.

On both occasions I did an XTG pass after a relather. Second pass lather for both shaves was fantastic; not thin at all, but rich and slick.

Post-shave face feel was excellent; soft, supple, moisturized without feeling greasy or oily.

As for the skin food aftershave splash, the one thing I noticed, again, was that it dries extremely quickly. Get plenty of it on your hands and then it's perfect, but if you don't get enough of it on your hands it feels like it dries and becomes somewhat tacky before you can get the entire face and neck splashed with it. It feels great going on and after it dries down the face is soft and smooth. Oh, and it smells amazing!

That slight possible allergic response that I noted the first time I used it was nowhere near as back for the second and third uses, which was a relief. My wife again commented that she thought I smelled great after I finished shaving. I noticed, also, that the scent lasts a long time; I was catching whiffs of it in the mid-afternoon after a morning shave. The scent stays pretty close to the skin, though, for which I am also thankful. You are not going to blast anybody from across the room, but it can be smelled by those who are close to you. Just the way an aftershave ought to work. The scent is woody, complex, and sophisticated. I really like it, even though generally speaking I prefer light, citrusy, or floral scents.

Long story short, I really enjoyed trying this soap and aftershave. The soap is definitely top tier, and competes favorably with any soap I have ever tried. Slickness is at least as good as Stirling, and cushion is better by far. Post-shave face feel is top notch. The aftershave is also really nice, with great skin calming, wonderful scent, good longevity, and low to moderate silage (perfect for me).

Thanks, Frank, for the opportunity of trying these products. Whoever is next on the list, please PM me your mailing address so I can get the goods sent to you.

Thank you my friend for the detailed reviews and input. and I'm glad your allergies calmed down with further use. I'm impressed that you noticed that the scent stays close to the skin. It's exactly what I was going for when I was developing it. At some point I may release a EDP of the aroma but cost wise it will be a challenge to keep the price down and I definitely would not be able to sell it through a supplier as they would want to double the price to the end user so I'd have it for purchase only on my website. When the 2nd release of the soap is ready I'd like you to try it and compare it to this version as it will have a different base and a few minor changes. Also I'll get the shipping info on the next person on the list to ship the products to.

Thanks again for taking the time to use and review my 1st release.

Hey Frank!

If you release an EDP of a Dragonsbeard, how about a square 2-3oz frosted matte black glass LIMITED EDITION, matte red atomizer, matte white/red swirled cap?  Dragon logo etched into the glass along with a numbered bottle.  EDP is special, it should be kept in its own special vessel.

I agree with KingFisher.  DB is sexy, masculine, dark, seductive, mysterious. People remember this scent.

I managed to get the package into the mail on Friday. I was assured by the post office that the package would likely be delivered today, Monday, November 25th. Looking forward to hearing the experience of others with this quality soap/aftershave.

Today's SOTD:

Brush: Shave Revolution 24mm Silvertip
Soap: Dragonsbeard
Razor: RazoRock Lupo (stainless steel)
Blade: Astra SP (3)
Post: Dragonsbeard aftershave

Ok, so I've tried A LOT of soaps like I'm sure many of us here have, but very few have given me this good of a first impression. I was really impressed with the lather quality of this soap. I'm very familiar with Oleo's soap base which is already very good, but the addition of sheep and camel milk along with the EOS Complex really takes it to another level. The lather has a creaminess that is rivaled by few, if any and the slickness both primary and residual is most definitely top tier even against the draggy feeling of the DLC coating on the SS Lupo (not my favorite feature of this razor if you can't already tell). I'm sure it will feel even slicker with a different razor.

Initially I wasn't sure about the scent off the tub because I'm not the biggest fan of oud, but by the time I lathered up and applied it to my face it was actually quite enjoyable. I feel like the scent on the aftershave is a bit different, leaning into a gourmand caramel-like scent for a few minutes before drying down into something really lovely that I can't quite put into words. I guess it's the blend of oud/agarwood oils and resins. It's a great scent for this time of year regardless.

The aftershave went on silky smooth with no burning or irritation to speak of and left my face feeling super super soft. However, as is common this time of year, I was left with some dryness. I don't know if this is because I skipped my usual splash of Humphrey's Skin Softening witch hazel before the aftershave (because I wanted to gauge the AS performance on its own) or not but I did apply some balm after about 10-15 minutes to get rid of it. I do realize that soaps and aftershaves are not meant to be moisturizers but the best ones do mitigate the drying effect to some degree. I'm really looking forward to using this set for the rest of the week though as I have read that there is a cumulative positive effect on the skin that occurs over time.

Thanks so much Dragonsbeard for hosting a second round of this pass around for those of us that missed out the first time!
