WARNING!! Shave geekery to follow!!

I am one of those shave crazies that keeps a log, thanks to a user here who posted a simple Google Forms template. It keeps some stats and I can go back over the last few years to see all my shaving enteries.

The point: this tub was purchased arrived in early January 2021, during 18 months of soap acquisition craziness. According to the stats, it have me 96 shaves!! Way to go Stirling!

On to the next!

That's a lot of shaves. Yes, Congratulations Stirling... but more so congrats Eric. After all, You did all of the heavy lifting (heavy lather painting?) to clear the tub out.

Big Grin  I like that, heavy lathering!! I am probably guilty of that in an attempt to use up the soap!

Sorta' done.
I got this far in the first week of October, and I started it in the first week of January, 2022, so it's lasted me 21 months of daily post-shave face-only use.
Brand new, there's 120 g of product in the stick, for CAD$7.99.
It began to scrape my face with edges of the handle, so I started using the butt end of an old Shavex Alum block.

Normally that might be the end of it.
The last time I finished one of these, it had already started coming loose in the handle, so I tried to pry it out. It broke up into many irregular pieces. I'm guessing that they machine or mold a groove in the alum and then heat-shrink the handle around it.

For this stick, I wiped it dry after every use and stored it upside down on its cap, to make sure that any remaining water did not drip back into the handle and dissolve it where the handle grips it. You could do that with the flattened top, unlike the Omega sticks with the round-topped cap.

But then yesterday I carefully cut the handle open and recovered 35 more grams of potassium alum, in a nice solid puck. That 29% of the total, or another 6 months of use, if I can use it down to the last sliver.
Yay!

P.S. I bought two more of these because the store I got it from is going to be up for sale, and who knows what the new owners will keep for inventory.
Bonus - They were the same price as early last year.

I really like the wide diameter, for fast application.

[keywords for future searches: DSA Deodorant Stones of America, Pure & Natural crystal deodorant, potassium alum, not ammonium alum]

Chasing the Dragon goes on my repurchase list though I may wait for it in the latest base.  Great soap!

The smell of oil was good for working around the shop with gas, oil and grease.  Probably not great when your gonna be hugging on people situations. Guy stinks of oil! Great for the race track or dirt bikes though.  haha.[Image: yUCdGHS.jpg]
