Don't seem to be able to open PMs

I just activated today and some has sent me a private message.  When I click the icon I get a screen indicating that I don't have permission.  I sent the activation code earlier and when I try again it indicates that I have already activated.  I have tried logging out and back in.   I am using Chrome on android, Galaxy S9.  Thanks for any help forthcoming.
