I stopped bowl lathering a couple years ago, my thoughts are the same as yours. I get much better results face lathering, plus it gives my skin extra time with the brush- which is always a plus!

This. It seems like a natural progression for wet shavers. We almost all start out bowl lathering and then slowly switch to face.

I mainly use Soaps. But when I do use a cream, I will typically bowl lather it. They seem to fair better when bowl lathered and it gives me an excuse to use my scuttle on those cold, Canadian days.

Hi Bruce, I face lather and I keep thinking about getting a brush scuttle because my bathroom is pretty chilly at 3am and warm lather would be nice throughout my shave. Julie at DB makes a nice one piece with a handle.

I use a nice SRD brush scuttle daily...even if I don't load with hot water. It is perfect to soak the brush, store the excess lather and house the brush between passes.

Julie does wonderful work too, I have a few of her pieces.

I think your on the mark regarding bowl vs. Face lathering. Why build up a lather in a bowl to apply to the face when you can apply directly to the face. The lather spends more time on the face, thus softening the hairs. Which then for me led to the next step, ditching my expensive badgers for Boar and synthetic. I certainly owned some of the more expensive badger brushes and I still cherish my PAV two band, but that's the only badger that survived. All the rest were sold. Now the average price for all my brushes minus the customs is around $15 and I have no regrets.

My disclaimer Your mileage WILL vary, a lot.
