My friend and I were debating how handedness affects guitar playing. He's right-handed and as he's just starting out chord shapes are killing him much less than they bothered me as a lefty. I think being a lefty is actually really helpful for playing right-handed guitar.
Interesting...I'm a righty, but I play guitar and never had an issue with the dexterity in my left hand to form chords. Obviously it took some development and muscle-memory practice, but it was never an issue. My fingers on my left hand are WAY more dexterous than my right (because I don't fingerpick), and I had a hard time with cramping, but getting my fingers into position was not much of an issue...aside from just getting used to it...

I am right handed and shave with DEs and SEs using my dominant hand exclusively. A few years ago, when I attempted to use straights, I tried using both my right and left hand, depending on the side of the face I was shaving. I think I could have mastered that but did not enjoy straight shaving enough to continue so never completely learned.
This has been an interesting thread and the number of you who have a dominant hand, either left or right, yet do certain things with the other is surprising to me.

Or you could flip the guitar over and the strings as is a la a lot if old time blues players. You've got some serious options as a lefty, on top of the fingering deal you just noted.
Or like Doyle Bramhall II today!

Or until you have to sit down next to a righty at the dinner table. We always had to carefully plan out our sitting arrangements at the table to accomodate my wrong-handed sister...

Being a lover of fountain pens, I am always interested in how lefties cope because of the obvious smudging problem of the wet ink. Left handed fountain pen lovers seem to deal with the problem in different ways. I know PhilNH5 is a left handed fountain pen user and he seems to be able to make adjustments.
As I stated earlier, this has been a most interesting thread and andrewjs18's original curiosity has opened up a whole new take on the issue. I just love this.

Although, when I was a kid I was always jealous of the lefties and wished I was left handed myself. Liked the special scissors

I hate that! That is the primary reason I cannot ever use a pencil....
also to note, I cannot use a left handed mouse at all, even though I do almost everything with my left hand.

That's okay, Andrew and you other lefties; we love you just as you are. The world would be an incredibly boring place if we were all the same. As a righty, may I say lefties are special and thank you for being here and educating us righties.
I'm right handed. I shave right handed when using DE or SE.
My left hand has lot of dexterity in it. My mother told me I seemed to be left dominant when I was growing up, but she encouraged me to use my right hand. So, maybe I truly am a left handed person in a right handed world?
I'm planning on trying straights in the near future and plan on using both hands straight shaving. Hopefully, I don't cut off my nose to spite my face! LOL
