Do you let your soap dry?

Came across an old thread which mentioned leaving the lid off to let the soap dry for a day.  I never ever do this.  I use it, dump out any extra water, screw on the lid, and might not use that soap again for a week or so.  Never noticed the soap getting soft or any negative effects.  In a way I figure I'm trying to keep the EOs for evaporating.

For those who let it dry out before putting the lid on, what benefits do you reckon you're getting (other than a nice smelling bathroom)?

Even though I live in the desert, I let my soaps dry 4–12 hours before putting the lid back on. I just don’t like the idea of storing something that is damp — especially since it could be anywhere from three to twelve months before I use it again.

Lately, though, I’ve been cutting the drying time a little shorter, the thought being that it’ll perhaps keep the scent from dissipating too much.

It would be interesting to see some scientific research about dampness & soap quality degradation versus drying time & soap scent degradation.

I usually just let it dry for 3-6 hours and that's it.

I let it dry overnight, same reason as Matt

At least 24 hours but ideally 2 full days. The idea of putting the lid on a damp/wet soap is a no no for me!

Interesting, Max. How come 2 days is ideal? Do you bloom your soaps?

I'm paranoid about leaving any trace of dampness on my soaps hence I leave the lid off, overnight.

Not a Mike's Natural or an OSP but some of the newer (and really good) soaps are really soft imo. Too soft. They can take over a full day to dry.

I don't put water on a soap before lathering. That 'bloom' word is like 'residual slickness.' Those hobbyist words that are pretty silly imo!

Yeah I don't bloom. I always thought it's a way to waste soaps so you'll buy more.

I leave the lid off for about 24 hours. Probably the only reason i do so is because I've heard of others getting brown spots on their soap...which they thought was due to moisture being trapped. But I will say, being able to smell the soap when enter the bath room every time is a huge bonus

I know that a couple of our well known (artisan) soap makers with really nice packaging and lids actually leave their soaps always uncovered after use with one only placing the lid on after a week.
