Don't look now, little buddy, but your fly is at half mast, your shoe is untied, your hypocrisy is showing, and you just stepped into a huge mound of el toro poo-poo.

I may have stepped out the door as a slob this morning because I overslept and was pressed for time, but I didn't step out the door as a pompous a$$ or an insufferable pr!@k.

Nor will I be surprised if that last statement gets me censored or banished.

Look at my avatar. That is an actual picture of me, about 8 months ago, so my beard is actually much larger than it appears in that photo.

This topic was started as a means of insulting individuals that choose to leave their houses unshaved, as I clearly choose to do.

Obviously, there are members here that feel insulted at being called slovenly, slob, fool, unhygienic, and inconsiderate by others here.

Thus, this topic has taken a turn to try and dissuade members from directly insulting individuals they have never met based on ignorance and personal preference.

If you don't see the insults, it is most likely due to the condition of your facial follicular treatment, and it's daily maintenance. Perceptions being individual and all.

Read through the topic again, and imagine yourself sitting there, reading all of these words, with stubble, or a beard, or a vacation-beard, or a camping trip under belt, or after sitting up all night with an ill person and rushing out to work in the morning, or...

I presume you are referring to me, considering I am the only individual willing to state that these insults have angered me...

You are entitled to your opinion.

However, I posit that any man, under any normal conditions, when directly insulted by an individual they do not personally know, would be angry.

These are insults, designed and intended to degrade and offend the person being insulted. I AM the person being insulted. It is very odd that one would go so far out of their way to insult someone, and then feign surprise when the intended recipient is actually insulted.

Picture, if you will, a fine Saturday morning in the local coffee shop. KAV walks into said coffee shop and sees me, bearded and unshaved, and initiates a conversation by stating that he "...CANNOT STOMACH fools who go out unshaven as some statement of individuality masking slob toilet matching their slobwear...."

How does a rational and sane human being imagine that conversation going, face to face, in a public venue?

If you think I would be one to ashamedly sit there and in cowardice allow KAV to make these bold and insulting statements directly to me, you are sorely mistaken.

If, on the other hand, you feel that this conversation would erupt in a rather loud disagreement, you would very likely be correct. I would very clearly tell KAV precisely where he could stick his opinion of my facial hair, and I would not be so quaint as to avoid the use of the profanity that his statements deserve, nor would I hesitate to tell him explicitly what he can do with the mouth that chose to utter it. In fact, I would offer to help him with closing the mouth that offered such a direct insult to me, and the result would likely be "furniture moving" in said public venue. [please note that this is not a threat, it is a description of the most likely outcome of a hypothetical encounter.]

Now...the internet being what it is, I fully accept that KAV did not intentionally insult me directly with his words. This may or may not be true, but I am willing to assume such until he tells me explicitly that he meant to insult me. With that assumption in mind, I have made a very conscious effort to point out precisely why his words were seen as insulting, and why I feel that insults of this nature should not be so readily and easily vomited upon the pages of this forum.

If that means that in your opinion I "...need anger management...", so be it. However, let it be clear that I have controlled my anger in every response, and explicitly avoided directly or indirectly insulting or confronting in an argumentative manner those that have chosen to disclose their disrespectful view of men with facial hair.

I, personally, believe that the restraint shown in response to these insults is far and away more respectful than that which was shown by uttering these insults in the first place.

Whoa, slow down

KAV  I try to walk out the door with my zipper up, shoes shined and watch wound. ... I CANNOT STOMACH fools who go out unshaven

1. No one wears pants with zippers anymore. No one wears shoes that needs to be shined. No one wears a watch anymore. These are general statements but look around.

2. The "grubby look" is in. Watch any TV show or Movie and you will see it, the 3 day stubble. Don't like it? Don't watch it. But that's not going to change anything.

Like I said, life is too short to worry about this trivial stuff.

Marko  you described the current social state ... What's in it for me? Its all about me!!!  Yup.

BadDad  I don't think the OP is talking about you. I think they are talking about the 3 day grubby look (but could be wrong).

This is small stuff.

I get that. Doesn't alter my point, honestly. The point is to be more careful when tossing about judgments and insults on a public forum.

I guess I'm an odd one then, because most of mine do.

All I own is denim jeans and a couple carhart overalls. They all got zippers. I also shine my cowboy and motorcycle boots because they are full grain leather and they need nourishment.

Sadly I no longer own an analogue watch that I can wind. I lost my interest in wearing a watch around the same time I lost my true analogue watch...

Chris,

The more I read from you and converse with you I am convinced you're a sage in a big beard.

As a young man, I would rise in the morning expecting the entire world to conform to my expectations and be upset when it didn't.

At this stage of life if wale at all, it's already a win situation, and if I make it through the morning routine of grooming and breakfast, I am one happy camper.

My biggest observation as I approach 70 are more to do with my bike than most any other part of my life.

Anyone going slower than me is a nuisance and anyone going faster is insane.
