On Instagram, I saw one comment about East Egg smelling a little like plastic or rubber. Another said that he was still “undecided” about the scent after the first shave. All the rest of the comments about the scent have been positive, and many have praised it. I’ve seen the word opulent used at least once.

Good to see even more comments here! Haven’t yet made a decision, so it’s interesting to see how others are experiencing it.

I tried a sample. I had commented on Instagram that East Egg smells like a mix between Night Music and Tabac to my nose. It’s very floral and dirty. While I’m a devoted barrister and Mann fanboy, this one just isn’t for me. It smells like the inside of my Polish grandmothers purse. Also might smell like that old basket of potpourri that my grandmother keeps in her bathroom. A lot of people are raving about this one and YMMV. I’m going to try it a couple more times in hopes that it grows on me. I was originally on the fence about CL Lamplight Penance but really enjoy using it now.

You ought to snag a sample from the B&M site, a cheap way to find out for yourself!

Thanks, I’m thinking about it. The decision may be slightly influenced by the knowledge that more Barrister and Mann goodness is on its way in August, with the two Maggard exclusives… Smile

Still waiting for B&M to intro a basic run of the mill scented Excelsior like the old Latha Limon. Angel

Secretary Ramsey put his foot into it yesterday . . . in the course of his remarks he said that California “needs water and better society.”  “So does h-ll,” yelled someone in the crowd.

I wouldn’t expect any of the Latha line to show up in the Excelsior base.

Yes, I agree. However, I don't entirely agree with the eclectic direction B&M is going with their soap scents. By entirely I mean that I see nothing wrong with them going out on a creative limb with some of their scents, BUT at the same time I think they need to perhaps add a few staple scents in their Excelsior line and not simply a "Greatest Hits" rehash of their Glissant line. Even easier for them would be to make a run of their Reserve line in Excelsior for those who want it. Just my opinion.

I haven't experienced East Egg, but West Egg is one my favorite fragrances. I have it in the EdT and aftershave (four bottles of the latter). Just chiming in.

Reserve is way better than Excelsior so that would be pointless.

And why is that? I have used both and openly admit the benefit of Excelsior over Reserve is incremental, but it is there nonetheless. The benefit is twofold IMO:  a bit easier to lather and in slickness. Again, it is not a life altering improvement, but at this stage nothing will be.
